Job Title: UTILITY ASSISTANT
Supervision Received Performs under the general supervision of Supervisor/Manager-Energy Delivery.
This classification may be assigned to work alone when reading meters, mowing, or cleaning.
Duties: May assist line/gas crews, or parts of crews, in constructing, maintaining, or repairing electrical and/or gas equipment associated with transmission/distribution systems and/or production plants.
Typical duties include:
- Framing poles
- Ground person for personnel working aloft (provided the employee is not the second qualified employee when working with MAD distances)
- Laying pipe/wire in trench
- Working with hand tools, small electrical tools or small air tools
- Patrolling
- Working on equipment that does not require special training
- Perform similar and less skilled work as required
- May operate vehicles that don't require the possession of a CDL (e.g., driving a pickup truck)
- Janitorial duties
- Grounds Maintenance
This classification shall NOT operate equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, etc.
This classification shall NOT do any work or be used as part of the minimum crew size, that would expose the individuals to any energized or pressurized lines or equipment.
This position is intended to last a minimum of 3 months to a maximum of 18 months. The internship can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties. This position will accumulate seniority during this time but will not be eligible for severance benefits if laid off as an intern (For bidding purposes, seniority shall begin once the employee has completed their six (6) month probationary period).
