Essential Job Functions
* Performs moderately complex systems and database administration. Monitors and tunes appropriate systems to ensure optimum level of performance.
* Oversees appropriate level software installations and upgrades and related software packages.
* Collects and reviews system data for capacity and planning purposes. Analyzes capacity data and develops capacity plans for appropriate level enterprise-wide systems. Coordinates with appropriate management personnel in implementing changes.
* Supports the design and configuration of complex system landscapes.
* Supports complex data/media recoverability through system backups and database archive operations. Plans, coordinates and directs appropriate level data refresh strategies.
* Oversees, recommends and implements appropriate level database solutions and enhancements to ensure an improvement in system reliability and performance.
* Oversees and applies appropriate support packages/patches to maintain system integrity.
* Develops and maintains appropriate system documentation to ensure that documentation is current. Oversees the maintenance of a library of system-supporting process and procedure documentation.
* Interacts with client management to answer questions, problems and requests regarding complex system issues.
* Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel. * Leads and participates in highly complex system projects. Installs, generates, maintains, tests, debugs, and integrate system software programs with COTS/GOTS applications and support equipment, develops instructions for integration of operating system software, and modifies/maintains integration packages via releases and utilities from manufacturers in a multi-operating system and/or network operating system environment. Evaluates existing operating systems/COTS/GOTS software and recommends changes. Optimizes systems software performance. Responsible for applications dealing with the overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, networks, CAD or GIS system software, or mathematical/scientific software packages. Engineers highly complex software that may relate directly to operating systems, their performance or devices controlled. Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred
* Six or more years of experience in a client-server environment
* Experience working with appropriate complex systems administration, database administration, and landscape maintenance
* Experience working with company products and services
* Experience working with company and client documentation and storage procedures
* Experience working with complex system implementations and organizational processes

* Good personal computer and business solutions software skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Provides UNIX system support for Production and Development environments, specifically dealing with major enterprise level portal systems in classified and non-classified systems. Contributes to system architecture improvements. Analyzes and reports system performance metrics. Coordinates system service events with user community. Supports system access at local and remote sites. Assists in writing shell scripts to automate maintenance tasks. Coordinates vendor service requests and tracks support cases. * Prefer Bachelor's with minimum six (6) years experience; ten (10) years in lieu with H.S. Diploma. * Duties include independently performing daily system administrative functions; install, configure, and test, and deploy Solaris systems; collect, analyze and report performance metrics; troubleshoot system and application problems; collaborate and coordinate with Sun Microsystems support staff; coordinate system activities with developer community; research new developments in IT field; suggest and implement improvements to enhance system design; take part in backup and restore procedures; other duties as assigned in support of command's mission. * Proficiency with Sun hardware and Solaris Operating System and scripting required. Experience with UNIX shell scripting and system administration via command line, UNIX/LINUX Server support in a Data Center/Enterprise environment desired. Knowledge of: JBOSS Middleware, SAN, APACHE web server, ProactiveNet and/or UNIX Performance Tuning. Able to work multiple high stress time critical projects (multi-task). * DOD 8570 mandated certifications are preferred. * Possess or able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
