Test Equipment Design Manager
Hamilton Sundstrand is among the largest global suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products. We design and manufacture aerospace systems for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft and are a major supplier for international space programs. Our industrial products serve industries ranging from hydrocarbon, chemical and food processing to construction and mining.
This position is responsible for the Electronic Operations Engineering test equipment design department in Rockford, Illinois and Windsor Locks, CT. The group serves all HS business units and includes 60 plus people with responsibility for electrical, mechanical, and software test equipment design, development, build, and introduction for production use.
Key job duties include:
Talent Development- Execute plans for the recruitment, training, development and retention of engineering talent. Review staffing demands monthly and assign capable staff to test equipment projects.
Program Execution and Financial- Oversee planning and execution of test equipment projects to consistently meet or exceed cost, schedule and technical objectives. Maintain capital and expense budgets, and prioritize projects in accordance with business needs. Manage departmental indirect spending within allocated budgets.
Quality/Productivity/EH&S -Drive continuous improvements in customer satisfaction and workforce productivity using ACE principles. Develop and implement test equipment engineering standard work. Ensure consistent application of ACE tools (MFA, standard work, QCPC, RRCCA, etc.) across programs. Oversee EH&S assessments, plans, and corrective actions for both locations.
Technology-Work closely with internal customers to understand needs and develop the test equipment technology solutions to drive test productivity growth. Develop Hamilton Sundstrand test equipment intellectual property which creates competitive advantage.
Test Strategy Development / Develop test coverage methodologies, criteria and supportive test strategies to meet business needs for electronic products and modules. Ensure test coverage gaps are mitigated to ensure quality products are delivered. Lead test strategy improvements for new and existing products and modules.
Regular travel between Rockford, IL and Windsor Locks, CT with some domestic and international travel

- At least 10 years of relevant product design and development experience with 5+ years of demonstrated leadership/supervisory skills.
- Working knowledge of electrical test equipment deign and OSHA safety regulations required.
- Candidate must have excellent communication (both verbal and written) and organizational skills to establish strong working relationships across the organization and plant sites.
- Must be familiar with test requiements and solutions for commercial aerospace, military and defense test solutions for electronics products.
