Technician - Test Instrumentation
Title: Technician - Test Instrumentation Location: IN-Indianapolis
The Test Instrumentation Technician is responsible for performing non-routine assignments involving fabrication and application of sensors to test hardware, routing of leads, termination of sensors, and setup and operation of measurement and recording systems. Typical sensors include strain gages, thermocouples, pressure tubing and transducers, tip clearance measurement systems, aerothermodynamic rakes and probe assemblies, and signal transmission devices such as slip rings and telemetry systems. Work includes: fabrication of the sensors and systems; design and fabrication of simple fixtures or test apparatus, setup and recording of calibration and test data, preparation of instrumentation systems for use in test stands, and monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems in test stands. Technicians also write department procedures as necessary to improve efficiency and capture lessons learned into daily work practices, and train and develop less experienced technicians.
The Technician may work independently, be part of a team performing like tasks, or act as a specialist in a particular area depending on experience level and complexity of the task. Basic: High school diploma with prior experience working with mechanical equipment or power generation equipment such as gas turbines, engines, electrical motors, or industrial machinery.
Preferred:
Associates degree in mechanical or electrical field is preferred. General understanding and wide application of technical principles and concepts in instrumentation. General knowledge of sensor fundamentals, gas turbine operation, and electronics. Ability to perform basic mechanical design work with CAD software. Good math skills and problem solving ability. Ability to read and work from engineering drawings. Knowledge of general machining techniques. Working knowledge of basic office software. Good interpersonal skills and communication skills - both oral and written. Highly motivated individual with the ability to work independently and in team environments.
