We currently have an exciting opportunity for aTechnicianin our Energy division. As a skilled specialist, this person will be the senior technician and take on the responsibility of establishing and running the Energy Multiplier Module (EM2) laboratory for General Atomics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: -Conduct and participate in the development of engineering activities that require considerable judgment and initiative such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication, installation, assembly, repair, maintenance and operation of a variety of laboratory, experimental or commercial equipment including prototype electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment -Utilize schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, trouble-shooting as well as other functional assessments and records and summarizes data -Participate in recommending the design, development, or construction of test procedures and equipment -Use manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, such as test programs oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus -Diagnose and correct operational problems or trouble sources in equipment or tests. Interprets basic information displayed to recognize when various operating measurements are drifting out of established parameters. Adjusts operating parameters to bring systems back to satisfactory operating conditions. Develops solutions to problems that occur including assisting in the design of specialized components -Direct, guide, and instruct other technicians or craft personnel in construction and maintenance of equipment, operation of tests, or laboratory. May act as a lead or advisor on projects -May participate in budgeting, scheduling or cost estimating as applicable -Carry out a variety of routine duties, must have excellent organizational skills and cleanliness to ensure a well-kept lab, equipment and workspace -Observe all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices -Perform other duties as assigned or required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: -Typically requires an Associate's degree or Certificate in a related discipline and eight or more years of related experience -Additional related experience may be substituted in lieu of formal education -Requires an extensive knowledge of the technical field, associated policies and procedures and relevant regulations -Must have knowledge and experience in vacuum equipment, overhead lifting requirement, high temperature furnaces -Must have analytical ability to read and understand complex technical instructions, P&ID diagrams, drawings and specifications and utilize complex equipment or complete experimental procedures -Must be able to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of technical personnel including engineers and scientists, interpret and explain complex information, establish priorities, respond to non-routine issues or situations that require evaluation and interpretation, and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information -Must be very proficient in the use of computer applications pertinent to the field, and have the skills necessary to precisely record technical data -May be required to work in unusual conditions such as high pressure, high voltage, high energy, cryogens, heights, weights, or radioactive materials and be able to work extended hours as required. Will be required to wear Personal Protective equipment and work with hazardous materials and chemicals DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: -Experience with radiological materials and hazardous chemicals -Experience with high temperature coating processes -Previous experience handling uranium -Possess computer skills for documentation and data collection and analysis with MS Excel and Word -Familiarity with PLC software control systems and other custom software applications for the collection of data and operation of equipment -Familiar with process control, metrology, and analytic laboratory techniques SAMPLE PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The following represent examples of the physical demands required to perform the essential job duties: Mobility to include sitting, standing, walking, talking and hearing, manual dexterity to use fingers to keyboard, handle and feel; stooping, bending and kneeling; lifting generally under twenty five (25) pounds; vision to permit close and easy viewing of computer screen.
