Title: Technical Writer Location: California-Cabin Systems POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for fulfillment of task assignments including preparation of technical manuals, handbooks, service bulletins, service information letters, reports, etc. Establishes and maintains internal contacts to determine background information, design or engineering changes, working knowledge of technical equipment or technical area involved. Has moderate responsibility and choice of action affecting department decisions. Accumulates source materials, prepares manuscript copy, and controls final copy generation for moderately complex equipment or systems. Is familiar with internal information systems and publication automation equipment. Typical assignments are new documents of limited complexity and revisions.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: · Prepares text and rough illustrations for various types of technical documents to meet company and customer specifications/requirements. Assignment will normally be on limited complexity products/projects. · Maintains established quality control standards. · Presents professional image at all times. · Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with customer, company management, and technical personnel. · Performs cross-functional activities as required in a teaming environment; such as editing, illustrating, distribution, quality control, and other assignments as determined by management. · Has some freedom in detailed processes consistent with project, scope, cost, schedule, and governing preparation specifications. Works under general supervision. · Conducts in-process reviews, validation, verification, and pre-publication reviews on selected projects. · Maintains a high degree of electronic technical knowledge at all times. This knowledge is kept current with applicable operation principles and diagnostic techniques. · Is familiar with commercial and military (writing, illustrating and graphic) specifications. · Must be able to interpret contract requirements. · As needed, assists in preparation of cost estimates and helor's degree in appropriate discipline, or in the absence of an bachelor's degree, six years of related experience.
