Systems Engineer - Electronics & Instrumentation (Specialist)
Title: Systems Engineer - Electronics & Instrumentation (Specialist) Location: OH-Mount Vernon
The Systems Engineer - Electronics & Instrumentation (Specialist) will be part of the Product Engineering Team reporting to the Packaging Chief Engineer. The role will require an understanding for the design of the fluid systems, structural, acoustics and ancillary support systems of packaged gas turbines. The role will be part of the overall team to support the maintaining of the baseline gas turbine package, new product development and in-service support.
This is an excellent position for a candidate who is keen to continue to enhance his or her technical skills and can provide a significant opportunity for future career development into technical and business leadership roles.
Responsibilities: * Understanding and maintaining the product baseline design while following established company change control procedures * Typically, the candidate will be able to demonstrate experience designing ancillary systems including lubrication, hydraulic control, starting, gas and liquid fuel, instrument air, and dry gas seal supply (for centrifugal compressors), ideally for gas turbine packages * Developing new system designs as required by the business to support the baseline or create new options. Typical tasks for new system development are listed below: * Development of new system designs * Development of P&ID's (system diagrams) including definition of key system parameters such as set points, definition of control sequence, flows, pressures and temperatures throughout the system * Specification of required components * Facilitating sourcing options * Lead the Design Review and Change Management process to ensure timely completion of the development * Liaison with procurement and suppliers to source systems and/or components and other engineering functions, with the customer, Marketing, Test and Assembly Departments * Cost control of the system design within established budgets * Assist the Design/Drafting group with the development of assembly/fabrication drawings * Work with Assembly personnel to optimize the design for manufacture and liaison between Product and Project teams as required * Willingness to travel internationally as necessary Basic: * Bachelors Degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering * Minimum 3 years in the design or manufacture of Turbomachinery Equipment Packaging or Project Engineering in a Gas Turbine environment or similar industry Preferred: * Experience in Rotating Machinery Packaging or similar industry * Demonstrated experience in the specification and design of ancillary systems for rotating equipment, ideally for gas turbines including experience with international codes and standards is required. Understanding of API (American Petroleum Institute) codes and standards is preferred, although not essential * Experience in specifying and designing systems with the following components: Electric motors and controllers, uninterruptible power supplies, instrumentation, wiring systems, heaters and control valves and verifying functionality of power, control, and instrumentation systems and conformance to customer specifications; preparing and interpreting engineering specifications; and producing P&ID's (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams) and wiring assemblies * A fundamental understanding of system operation and performance, equipment selection, and piping design, including pressure loss evaluation, orifice sizing, etc. * Knowledge of power plant equipment and their interface with each other and the electric grid a plus. * Providing technical support to Manufacturing, Field Service and Marketing personnel * Overall responsibility of several system designs on multiple projects, which demands the individual be self-directed and capable of working as part of a team working to a higher level plan to ensure deliverables are to RR best practices and on time * Ability to communicate complex engineering issues in practical business language for easy comprehension at all levels
