Systems Engineer 3\4

Ability to apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to the entire development lifecycle of a major subsystem of a network-centric program. Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system functional and performance requirements, perform key subsystem architecture and design trade studies, perform essential subsystem-level analyses relating to network performance, work collaboratively within and across IPTs to develop and execute integration and test plans and verification and validation plans. Ability to communicate effectively with domain experts across a range of backgrounds including networking, satellite bus and payload design, software development, and satellite program management.

Position requires a basic understanding of both terrestrial and satellite-based network architectures and protocols, and demonstrated experience with the configuration of commercial switch, router, and cross-connect equipment. Candidate should be well versed in network architecture and have an in-depth understanding of at least one of the following technologies: ATM, Frame Relay, IP, MPLS-TE, OTU, and SONET/SDH. In addition, an understanding of commonly used network management protocols such as SNMPv3, SFTP, and SCP are useful as well as hands-on experience with commercial implementations such as Tivoli, Cisco or Juniper CLI, and open-source network management tools.

Typical Education/Experience
Level 3 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 4 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience.
