Systems Administrator (Diego Garcia)

Location: Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT). Diego Garcia is an island in the Indian Ocean and is an unaccompanied 12-month assignment. Family members and dependents are not allowed on Diego Garcia.
Basic Job Description:
The Systems Administrator (SA) has the overall technical responsibility for managing and maintaining the GEODSS computer systems and associated network equipment. The SA will comply with administrative communication policies and procedures, provide desktop support, enforce information assurance policies, assist with operation and maintenance of classified and unclassified systems, and perform troubleshooting functions. The SA will assist other GEODSS sites. The Systems Administrator will also assist with development and refinement of operational procedures, checklists, and test plans. As a secondary duty, the SA achieves and maintains qualification and proficiency in operating optical sensors to fulfill the GEODSS sensor mission taskings. The SA performs multiple additional duties and other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 1 requirements for classified and unclassified desktops.
2. Coordinate with service provider to resolve network problems.
3. Install client equipment and software and connect peripherals.
4. Perform client workstation diagnostics and troubleshooting.
5. Oversee user access to system. Add, remove, and maintain user accounts. Train users on equipment operation and security.
6. Develop and implement backup strategies and system restoration procedures.
7. Ensure physical security of network.
8. Configure software and provide assistance for commonly used office automation applications.
9. Assist with developing new software and hardware requirements.
10. Review, coordinate, and accomplish computer software and hardware modifications.
11. Prepare test plans for software and hardware.
12. Maintain system configuration.
13. Provide Defense Message System (DMS) end-user support.
14. Operate and monitor Automatic Digital Network (AUTODIN) equipment and Message Distribution Terminals (MDT).
15. Perform equipment custodian duties and maintain inventory.
16. Complete Information Assurance Manager (IAM) Level I requirements.
17. Prepare reports on system testing, configuration, security, system Certification & Accreditation (C&A), etc.
18. Support Emission Security (EMSEC) documentation and application.
19. Manage, control, protect, and safeguard Communication Security (COMSEC) material, equipment, and accounts.
20. Manage Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system.
21. Support the system via on-call when outside of normal working hours.
Qualifications:
1. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
2. An associate�s degree in a field related to computer science is desired.
3. Familiar with UNIX/SYBASE, VXWORKS, and Windows operating systems desired.
4. TRU64 UNIX training and Security+ certification is desired.
5. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
Certifications:
1. UNIX TRU 64
2. Security +
Experience: Two years applicable experience working with computer systems.
Work Schedule: Shift work. Provides on-call support so may be called in after hours. May work nights, weekends, and holidays.
