Structural & Payload Design Engineer 4\5

Develops, maintains and modifies structural system and component designs using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools to provide product definition to stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle. Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Works under minimal direction. Must be a US citizen to gain permanent access to Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

Basic Qualifications For Consideration

Typical Education/Experience
Level 4 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 5 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Other Job related information
Perform mechanical/structural design tasks for the Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage elements. Prepare conceptual and preliminary 3-D CAD models using ProE software and complete the design tasks through final engineering release in Windchill. Previous experience on NASA and/or Launch Vehicle design preferred.
