Hamilton Sundstrand is among the largest global suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products. We design and manufacture aerospace systems for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft and are a major supplier for international space programs. Our industrial products serve industries ranging from hydrocarbon, chemical and food processing to construction and mining.
* Provide structural (stress and dynamics) analysis support for static and rotating components (impeller, turbine disk, blades, turbine nozzle, shroud, guide vanes, housings, shafts, gears, bearings, seals, etc.) of an aerospace gas turbine engine including accessory drive gearbox.
* Work with design engineers to ensure structure integrity and design optimization.
* Evaluate conceptual designs and make recommendations by identifying load paths and associated stiffness, estimating loads and performing preliminary sizing calculations.
* Perform appropriate 1D, 2D or 3D analysis required for desired accuracy within available budget and schedule guidelines.
* Perform required static, modal, forced response and/or impact dynamics analyses using classical handbook or finite element solutions (ANSYS).
* Perform low cycle and high cycle fatigue analyses as well as creep, oxidation, sulfidation and hot corrosion durability analysis for critical components.
* Work with design and material engineers for Failure mode study. Conduct the failure root-cause analysis and develop an efficient solution.
* Understand the engineering physics, able to interpret the results and make recommendations for improvement to achieve better performance, enhance producibility, meet weight and cost targets.
* Write engineering reports.
* Experience with thermal analysis and random vibration is a plus.
* Utilize low cost outsourcing for less critical tasks. Track and meet milestones.
* Teach, mentor and lead junior members of the structures group.
Experience with UG and dynamics is a plus.
United Technologies Corporation is An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
A minimum of 8 years experience in structural analysis and fatigue / creep lifing of mechanical / aerospace / turbomachinery components. Analytical skills must include use of both classical handbook solutions as well as finite element analysis using ANSYS. Some knowledge of solid modeling tools (Unigraphics) is preferred. Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills are required as an integral part of the job.
