Position Description
The Sr. Principal Enterprise Architect works within the CRDM Patient Management Product Development (PMPD) organization. The candidate is responsible for defining and governing enterprise architectural property consisting of applications, services, processes, components, and various technology solutions for the PMPD CareLink organization. The candidate will work with the senior PMPD leadership team to provide recommendations and support in all future technology, architecture, and platform decisions. The candidate must be self driven with a strong understanding of large-scale enterprise architectures, current and emerging technologies; architecture, systems, and development methodologies; IT infrastructure, business application services, web servers and database technology, and strong influence and leadership skills.
Position Responsibilities
Facilitate the identification of Medtronic's Enterprise architecture based on Medtronic's business and product Strategy. Define required application and infrastructure services and identify technical solutions and vendor products to implement these services. Work with CRDM PMPD Management to develop a technology roadmap for future implementations. Establish direction, governance, and standards for implementing Service Oriented Architecture initiative. Provide direction and support to development teams implementing services. Understand new vendor releases and products from key vendors such as PeopleSoft, Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM. Assess the impact of these products on the architecture. Stay abreast of application products from emerging technology vendors that may benefit Medtronic's business. Analyze new project requests to identify how current and planned architectural components can address project needs. Provide guidance and direction to project teams on selecting appropriate technologies, platforms, and products. Assist with platform selection and sizing. Ensure Medtronic is leveraging existing architectural components rather than building redundant, stove-pipe systems. Provide advice to project teams on scoping, estimating, designing, and implementing new or bolt-on application components. Ensure the ongoing integrity of the architecture and major components as systems evolve and are enhanced. Maintain architecture documents, diagrams, and standards.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree with relevant business experience
Minimum of five years experience as an Enterprise, Application, or System Architect at a global firm.
10+ years of IT experience.
Ability to travel worldwide
Strong understanding of systems development methodologies, process modeling, application design, data modeling, system sizing, testing, and performance engineering concepts and techniques. Experience with development tools such as IDEs, Mercury, Rational, Quest, VSS, etc. Deep understanding and knowledge Service Oriented Architecture concepts, standards, and technologies. Experience with XML and Web Services (UDDI, SOAP, WSDL), enterprise service bus, and orchestration tools (BPEL/BPM). Prior experience developing large-scale enterprise systems using J2EE and/or .NET frameworks, relational databases technology (DB2/UDB, SQL Server), and web application servers in both Unix and Windows environments. Experience with implementing and architecting for ERP packages. Hands-on experience with performance engineering for large-scale systems having tens of thousands of users or more. Understanding of a broad set of applications services, including business applications, business intelligence, data warehousing, messaging, collaboration, and enterprise application integration. Understanding of IT Infrastructure (WAN, SAN, etc.) and their impact on application performance and functionality. Experience with the issues associated with High Availability, Business Continuance, and Disaster Recovery. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior management. Ability to coach and mentor junior technical staff. High-energy, self-motivated individual with the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals in a highly virtual work environment.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Industry experience in Professional Services or R & D Product Development Services is desirable.
