Job Description
Under the general direction of the Manager of Controls Engineering, perform as a lead engineer in the design and management of complex, multi-disciplined projects. Assist management in a shared vision to integrate a common project management methodology across several functional groups and to implement a strategic plan for the process engineering group. Incumbent requires a proven track record, demonstrating the ability to integrate multiple engineering disciplines and deliver sound engineering solutions to important operational issues.
•Design and implement Delta V continuous improvement projects. Transfer knowledge of digital control system design and programming to others in the group and advance the Delta V technology at the facility.
•Plan and implement large scale, complex projects, including capacity yield improvement and cycle time reduction projects. Interface with Management to deliver design alternatives and project updates. Lead cross-functional teams as assigned by the project. Provide as needed performance assessment to management regarding team member's contributions and performance.
•Establish, develop and drive Good Engineering Practices and conduct projects according to the prescribed Project Management Methodology.
•Participate in, and facilitate the harmonization and coordination of efforts between other teams; such as, Quality Engineering, Facility Engineering, Maintenance, Technical Services, R&D, EHS and Regulatory.
•Develop detailed Delta V design standards and guidelines for the LA Facility.
•Develop user requirements, process functional specifications, system design specifications, system acceptance test plans, system commissioning plans, and validation protocols.
•Perform formal systems acceptance testing including software simulation and hardware and equipment acceptance.
•Perform hands on field installation, operational startup and commissioning activities for Delta V control systems.
•Provide technical support and troubleshooting functions to the plant operations.
•Direct outside contractors to perform project activities.
Job Requirements
•Strong process controls engineering skills based on sound engineering and scientific principles.
•Working knowledge of digital instrumentation and bus technology is preferred.
•Working experience with Emerson DeltaV digital control systems platforms is required.
•Recognized as an expert with process control systems as evidenced by requests for guidance by fellow employees as well as others outside the Division.
•Proficient programming skills and advanced technical expertise with Delta V control systems. Proven ability to apply specialized theoretical knowledge in a creative way to a broad range of difficult problems.
•Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
•Demonstrate the ability to write reports clearly, describing results from complex processes and qualifications
•Must have good organization, prioritization and follow-up skills. Ability to overcome obstacles and to deliver results
•Must have excellent communication skills in order to effectively communicate with all levels of professionals, both internal and external
•Experienced at successfully presenting projects/proposals to Division level management
B.S. degree in Engineering and 9-13 years of experience, M.S. in
Engineering and 5-7 years of experience
Minimum 3-5 years hands on experience on Delta V System or similar DCS System.
