JOB TITLE: Senior Mechanical Engineer
COMPANY:

The main center of design and manufacturing in North America is located in the Columbia, SC area with sister locations in Germany and France. The main focus productsfor this positionare in the Assembly Tool and Material Removal Tools areas.
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide leadership for a cross-functional team to design and develop new products for the industrial power tool industry. As a project lead, the Senior Project Engineer is expected to develop mechanical components and technology strategies for new products while also identifying opportunities to improve existing products. The successful candidate will champion collaboration with our global marketing, engineering, and manufacturing teams to inspire and lead the development process. This position is one of the keys to maintaining our Global Market share. The position will report to the Chief Engineer, Pneumatic and Mechanical, but will involve participation in Global cross functional product teams driven by our New Product Development process. It will involve travel both externally to customers for evaluation of needs against design ideas and internally to collaborate with our Global team.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
New Product Development:
Researches and develops core technologies required by the company to improve its competitive edge.
Designs, develops, analyzes and documents product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
Acquires and applies skills necessary to design, develop and introduce new products with the greatest possible margins and in the shortest amount of time.
Identifies, quantifies, and implements tools, methods, processes, and equipment which improve the quality, reliability and productivity of the department.
Quality:
Actively pursues continuous improvement and ease of doing business to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Develops procedures and processes that lead to reliable designs.
Understands and uses the philosophy and tools of lean manufacturing and DFMA.
Communication and Leadership:
Effectively communicates information to co-workers, customers and suppliers, which they will require to perform their job.
Serves as the project technical leader throughout the NPD process.
Serves as a mentor to other engineers within the company, helping them to develop their design, analysis and problem solving skills.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Advanced degree highly desirable.
Minimum 5 years experience in product design/engineering experience, including the use of standard mechanical engineering analysis software (i.e. FEA, kinematics, tolerance analysis, 3D CAD).
Ability to analyze components and assemblies for static and fatigue strength to meet design goals.
Experience in DFMA
Ability to correctly use standard test and measurement equipment to quantify designs.
Highly motivated and self-directed, able to work with minimal supervision and able to use technology effectively to work with a geographically distributed team.
Strong customer focus
Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Works precisely and pays close attention to details and deadlines
Understanding and experience with gear systems is a major plus.
Previous experience within a manufacturing industry is a plus
