Sr Engineering Manager - Digital Signal Processing Hardware Design
Title: Sr Engineering Manager - Digital Signal Processing Hardware Design Location: Iowa-Cedar Rapids, IA This senior engineering manager will lead the day- to- day performance of a team of electrical engineers with digital design expertise. Their primary responsibility is the design, test, integration, and production transition of high performance digital designs incorporating DSP and general purpose processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), high speed interfaces, and related peripheral circuitry. The team functions as part of a matrixed organization consisting of mechanical, electrical, systems, software, ASIC, and packaging engineers developing multiple products for a variety of customers. Products include programs related to JTRS and International Software Defined Radios, Narrowband Communications, and Datalinks, and supporting test platforms. Primary responsibilities include personnel acquisition and development, resource planning and allocation, performance reviews, salary planning, and providing project execution direction to the engineering team. The candidate must wield (or possess) sound decision making, communication, and networking skills, and be able to ensure accuracy in team forecasting of project cost and schedule performance. Additional requirements include a firm understanding of high speed digital hardware development tools and processes, as well as project management skills including earned value cost and schedule analyses. Candidate must be a self-starter, able to multi-task assignments, manage unplanned events, and take advantage of opportunities and events to achieve results that exceed expectations. This individual must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization from management, through support organizations and subcontracts, as well as internal and external customers. Candidates must possess an active security clearance (minimum DoD Secret) or be eligible to obtain one. Principal accountabilities include: . Ensure the team has the appropriate skills, talents, and experience to execute against design plans . Provide consistent feedback to the team to ensure successful execution of projects . Perform best match assignments of individuals to tasks by understanding each person's strengths . Ensure each individual understands, generates, and works toward achieving SMART goals . Ensure each individual maintains and engages in an appropriate development plan . Measure progress metrics for individual and team performance . Ensure adherence to Technical Consistent Process (TCP) . Ensure adherence to Management Authorization Process (MAP) . Ensure compliance with program / product requirements as reflected in design plans . Provide management direction for project planning and control . Participate in the budgetary planning process through identification of staffing, facilities, capital, and support needs . Provide skilled resources and support organizational learning by broadening staff responsibilities and promoting the flow of resources through various aspects of definition and development . Manage team overhead costs to meet department level budgets Create a competitive / collaborative team environment focused on 100 % customer satisfaction. This role requires abilty to obtain a U.S. Dept of Defense Security Clearance. U.S. citizenship helor's degree in appropriate discipline, and eight years of related experience, or, in the absence of a bachelor's degree, fourteen years of related experience.
