Specialist Engineer, Airframe Design';
Piper Aircraft, Inc. is seeking a Specialist Engineer, Airframe Design at their location inVero Beach,Florida.
SUMMARY:
Direct the activities of design engineers and drafters. Administer policies and procedures established by the Project Manager or Director. Provide estimates of hours to complete design tasks to Program Management. Perform advanced design and structural substantiations. Track and report drawing schedule status.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Track departmental programs drawings status and keep designers apprised of drawing schedule responsibilities. Notify Chief Engineer, Airframe Design and Program Management of anticipated schedule deviations. Establish schedule for design/drafting tasks based upon existing manpower. Help establish and improve procedures used by the department. Produce conceptual layouts, manual installation, and assembly design and detail drawings. Utilize Unigraphics computer aided design (CAD) to generate drawings when necessary. Compose Engineering Orders (EO) to correct drafting/design errors, revise design, or incorporate changes/modifications to existing three dimensional models and drawings utilizing ign new airframe components, which includes preliminary design concept, creation of engineering drawing, research/investigation, create three dimensional model utilizing Unigraphics. Interact with outside vendors for the purpose of hardware selection. Coordinate with Purchasing department to ensure vendors are contacted in procuring the necessary parts and materials. Add new inventory items (NIIN) notice when required. Whenever possible, utilize Piper manufactured parts, purchased parts and raw materials from standard stock in new design or product improvement. Determine process requirements from military, industry and/or Company specifications and standards. Update Baan computer system with revisions. Manual drawing maintenance is required periodically. Perform structural substantiations as required Analysis or test of flight test instrumentation racks, test equipment, etc. to Company Engineering Policy requirements. Determine compliance with the applicable regulations covering the structural strength, crash protection, interiors, basic loads, weight balance, stress analysis, static test, dynamic test, fatigue analysis/assessment, and evaluation the processes and fabrication methods to produce the aircraft structure. Do preliminary analysis on Marketing ideas and concepts effecting the aircraft structure and /or weight in coordination with FAA regulations. Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, (preferably Mechanical or Aerospace), and minimum ten years related general aviation experience. Experience in structural analyses, test and design, qualifications for an FAA designated engineering candidate may be obtained within 1 year.
General knowledge of all phases of aircraft design, testing, approval, manufacturing, inspection and service, all manufacturing processes and techniques relative to fabrication and assembly; working knowledge of Unigraphics CAD; and familiarity with FAR 23 and certification are required to perform the duties of this position.
