Title: Software Engineer -- Naval Messaging Systems Location: USA-South Carolina-Charleston Other Locations: The EAL Division is looking for a Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer in our Charleston, SC facility. We are currently seeking Software Engineers to support existing, new and next generation military communications applications. An engineer in this position is responsible for deriving communication software requirements, creating the design and developing applications implementing these requirements.
Software Engineer performs functional business applications analysis, designs specifications for functional activities, which generally include operating systems, software applications, and/or network products, to meet customer requirements. Develops tools, determines capability requirements and, influences product design. Tests, debugs, and refines computer software to produce the required product. Prepares required documentation, including both program and user-level. Identifies opportunities for systems improvement, focusing on company capabilities and future efforts. May function as key member on specialized projects serving as counselor to senior management and customers.
Due to the nature of our work qualified candidates must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. Candidate must be able to travel on occasion. * BS/MS in Computer Engineer or Computer Science with 0-2 years specific education/experience in embedded or application software development. * The Software Engineer is responsible for creating and proposing solutions to real-time communication system control and equipment interface development. * Qualified candidates must have the ability to apply strong software engineering skills to the development of command and control software. * Must have capability to translate user objectives into software requirements. Also must display good leadership qualities and ability to relate complex communication system concepts to external and internal customers. * Experience with software development in C/C and JAVA are required. * Knowledge of two or more cross-compilers including use of IDEs such as Netbeans, Eclipse or Microsoft Visual Studio as well as ability to use command-line tools such as GNU GCC. * Knowledge of Windows, VxWorks or Linux driver software a plus. * Good presentation and technical writing skills are strongly desired. * Current security clearance at Secret level or above.
