Software Engineer -Aviation Software Developer/Designer
Garmin International Inc. is seeking an analytical and communicative Software Engineer who will develop software in C, C++, C#, Java or other selected languages for Garmin products in accordance with our software development methodology.
The Software Engineer will be:
* Working in a team-oriented environment
* Performing new product software design and development
* Conducting maintenance activities for products already in production
Job Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer for Garmin, you will perform software releases as well as conduct or participate in software quality assurance activities.
Additional responsibilities for the Software Engineer include:
* Testing software using debuggers, emulators, simulators and/or logic analyzers
* Reviewing product information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy
* Participating in product definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs
Job Requirements
As a Software Engineer for Garmin, you must possess relevant experience and/or training in high-level languages such as C, C++, C# or Java relevant to Garmin's business needs. You must possess relevant experience and/or training in data structures and object oriented design methodology relevant to Garmin's business needs. As a Software Engineer for Garmin, you must possess relevant education and/or experience in software design, development and maintenance is also required. You must be detail oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision. You must be have the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment. Furthermore, as a Software Engineer for Garmin, you must have demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional requirements of the Software Engineer include:
* Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or a field relevant to the essential functions of this job description from a four-year college or university or 4 years experience performing a roles substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
* Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Desirable qualifications of the Software Engineer include:
* Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
* Previous experience working in a team environment
* Relevant experience in one or more of the Specialization Areas listed below
Specialization areas of the Software Engineer include:

* User interface design & development including MFC, Gtk+, Gtkmm or QT
* Micro computer architecture expert / assembly language programming
* Windows Mobile, Symbian, Palm, BREW or similar embedded application development
* Windows or Mac OS application development
* Cartography/map technology algorithm and application development
* Embedded Linux platform development (kernel mode, drivers, system libraries, GNU toolchain)
* Client-server/Web/Enterprise application development using J2ME or J2EE
