Materials Engineer
The Materials Engineer is part of Engineering and Operational Solutions (EOS), which provides engineering and manufacturing support to AkzoNobel Business Units. EOS has offices in Netherlands (Arnhem); China (Shanghai) and U.S.A. (Tarrytown, Brewster and Chicago). The position will provide corrosion engineering services and materials technology consultation for production sites, BU Technology Groups and capital projects.
Responsibilities
· Provide materials technology expertise and corrosion consulting services to AkzoNobel businesses.
· Services include: materials selection, testing, equipment design and procurement, expediting, failure analysis.
· Materials involved: metals and alloys; thermoplastic, thermoset and elastomeric materials; gaskets; insulation; coatings.
· Equipment includes: tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, pumps, utilities and transport containers (truck trailers, iso containers, railroad tank cars).
· In addition is also expected to provide:
· Plant inspection services at AkzoNobel production facilities.
· Vendor inspection services at fabricators of AkzoNobel equipment.
· Materials technology and corrosion engineering support of EOS/USA capital and non-capital project activities.
· Must be capable of handling small procurement projects, including bid requests, bid evaluations, interfacing with fabricators/suppliers, expediting fabrication, conducting quality conformance inspections and installation.
· Position entails a combination of office, plant, laboratory and field environments.
· Position will be supported by AMC/EOS [Arnhem, NL] who has team of specialists and expertise groups.
· Person will be a functional member of AMC/EOS Arnhem and an administrative member of EOS/USA.
· Person must be equally comfortable obtaining information from plant operators as they are detailing conclusions to site management and subsequently presenting clear, concise and informative reports of activities.
Requirements:
Qualifications
· A Bachelors or Masters degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Metallurgical or Materials Science engineering
· 2-5 years related experience in an engineering, maintenance or manufacturing environment
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently as well as in multi-functional/multi-organizational teams
· Flexible work style
· Willingness to travel (~30%), both domestically and internationally
