Posted Position Title Senior Reliability Engineer Career Level Experienced Function Engineering/Technology Function Segment Product Design and Development Location United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces Michigan City Grand Rapids Postal Code 49512-1934 Relocation Assistance Yes Role Summary/Purpose The Senior Reliability Engineer is responsible for providing oversight and technical support of junior Reliability Engineers in the reliability design analysis of avionics programs using accepted aviation industry reliability prediction methods. Responsible for understanding and oversight of system reliability tasks over a broad product mix ranging from aircraft cockpit and military crew station systems to simple electronic components. In this role, you will: Essential Responsibilities * Evaluate the design analysis of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
* Develop reliability engineering procedures and practices position that supports the development and continuous improvement of technical products and services
* Mentor and develop junior reliability engineers
* Perform reliability prediction analysis using generally accepted methodology and failure rate sources such as MIL-HDBK-217, Prism or field experience data
* Participate in Failure Review Board processes to identify and correct recurrent failure mechanisms
* Perform Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis to support the design process and to provide input to Safety, Testability and Logistics analyses
* Develop Reliability test plans and manage Reliability test activities
* Develop alternate methods for performing credible MTBF assessments using data gathered during development testing and repair of returned production units
* Support the Bid and Proposal process by developing reliability programs specifically designed in response to customer requirements
* Coordinate with subcontractors to define reliability programs and to oversee their efforts
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams Qualifications/Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Physics
* Minimum of 10 years experience in avionics or aerospace engineering positions ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
* This position requires access to controlled technology. To abide by Export Compliance regulations candidates must have either US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident Alien Status Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work. Desired Characteristics * Understanding and use of Microsoft Office applications, Relex, Reliasoft or related accepted industry reliability prediction applications
* Experience in industry accepted reliability testing procedures (HALT and HASS)
* Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
* Extensive experience in reliability analysis, testing, statistical analysis, and modeling
* Possess a basic understanding of statistical techniques used in solving reliability issues
* Able to read and understand electrical schematics
* Minimum of 10 years experience working with the design and production of avionics products
* Possess a basic understanding of the current methodology associated with Highly Accelerated Reliability Test, Highly Accelerated Stress Screening and Physics of Failure Analysis
* Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting assigned projects
* Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
* Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
* Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
