AutoReqId 36019BR Function Engineering Division Power Distribution & Controls Assemblies External Job Title Senior Product Design Engineer- Asheville, NC Job Description Eaton Corporation located in Asheville, NC has an immediate opening for a Senior Product Design Engineer for the Medium Voltage Drives Product Line. This position will be responsible for the design of industry-leading medium voltage adjustable frequency drives components and assemblies. The Senior Product Design Engineer is responsible for performing a wide variety of engineering and technical tasks involving the application of engineering knowledge and the development of solutions to complex problems pertaining to products, materials, manufacturing processes, tests, and unique customer applications. Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations. Participates as a team member or serves as the leader of cross-functional project design teams. Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects. Ensures successful completion of assigned projects within the budgeted time and cost constraints. Participates in defining engineering approaches including the planning and scheduling of work. Executes all design, development, and related technical tasks required to maintain the product line. Develops product designs which may require the implementation of unique solutions. Initiates and prepares specifications for products, equipment, and processes while maintaining awareness and control of costs. Develops and maintains detailed project schedules incorporating resource management and milestone deliverables. Must be capable of writing articles for trade and technical publications, presenting papers and preparing patent disclosures. Performs or leads team in design process tracking and execution specifications, risk assessment, design quality assessment, design for manufacturing, design information control, design verification, and documentation all in accordance with ISO and Eaton procedures and systems.
Job Qualifications /Educational Requirements Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5 to 7 years of related experience and possessing a high degree of mechanical proficiency. Some knowledge of electrical power systems, power electronics, and adjustable frequency drives is preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and CAD software programs such as AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Pro-E, Solidworks, or Inventor is required. Succesful canidiate will have a working knowledge of power conversion packaging techniques to solve complex; thermal management requirements for power Semi conductors components, inner-conncetivity for both control and power wiring/harnesses, control electronic packaging, and low inductance bus bar designs. A working knowledge of required regulatory standards (UL, CSA, IEC) will be a plus. Possesses appropriate project management skills to take the lead role on typical development projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Willing to travel occasionally to support manufacturing, product design, and product application issues. Solid problem solving skills and ability to analyze product application issues and drive them to root cause resolution. Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers. Must be a strong team player that enjoys a fast paced environment .
