Senior Environmental Safety and Health Engineer Country United States Work Location CO, Colorado Springs Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: Performs as a Subject Matter Expert in support of designated corporate-directed Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) programmatic efforts.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES: 1.Assist the ESH Manager in the implementation of the corporate ESH programs; as directed, may conduct facility environmental, safety and health audits to ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations; and administer safety training. 2.Provide Business Development support associated with Request for Proposal (RFP) customer requirements and/or amendments to existing work contracts to identify unusual ESH terms, conditions, or requirements that carry potential risk for the corporation. Evaluate and size the associated risk and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate them. Provides input and reviews proposals prior to their release for technical accuracy and completeness in approach to meet customer requirements in a manner which assures worker, environmental and natural resource protection. 3.Writes both draft and final Environmental and Safety plans for use in proposal submissions. 4.Develops and conducts special subject management and staff deployable training programs. 5.Participates on phase-in team activities and provides on-site ESH program phase in support 6.Composes and edits letters, reports and technical correspondence involving evaluation and argumentation presentation of advanced technical material, and as applicable, makes oral presentations of similar materials. 7.Participates as a team leader or member on ITT Corporate directed Environment, Safety, and Health Audits conducted at ITT Corporation, System Division facilities on a triennial basis or as needed. Following the release of the audit exceptions report, coordinates with the program's management and provides support to develop a Corrective Action Plan, and reviews the program's progress and adherence to the Action Plan schedule. 8.Coordinates and has oversight responsibility for the conduct of the ITT Corporation, Systems Division's Occupational Health Program. Reviews job requirements and identifies to management those work processes with known inherent occupational exposures that can adversely impact an employee's health. 9.Analyzes accident, injury and property loss data to identify root cause relationships and trends that can adversely impact workers compensation costs; formulates affirmative action plans in conjunction with appropriate management to bring about a reduction of incidence and lower insurance related costs. 10.As required, prepares and submits highly technical and routine reports, letters and other correspondence to and for internal and external customers. Routinely prepares and submits reports in response to queries from regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, OSHA). 11.Reviews, analyzes and assesses the impact of externally generated industrial hygiene reports of finding and formulates appropriate actions to mitigate corporate risk. 12.Assists Program Managers in candidate selection for open ESH coordinator positions by providing guidance in appropriate qualifications. Provides input for consideration of qualified internal candidates. 13.Recommends programs appropriate to enhance the training and development of program ESH coordinators. 14.Reviews operational plans and specifications for project start-ups or close-outs to ensure that appropriate ESH considerations are addressed and the requirements are carried out. 15.As directed, conducts special environmental, safety and health studies and works with internal and external customers to solve technical and complex problems that require creative thinking and knowledge of advanced environmental safety and health concepts.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Personal computer with MS or MS compatible Windows office management and technical applications, Fax, Photocopier, environmental and safety monitoring equipment, digital camera; etc.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work generally conducted in an office environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in out-of-doors areas with exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Work will require lifting up to 35 lbs.; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting. Required Experience: Four to six years practical experience in the functional and administrative applications of Environmental Safety and Health program implementation. Desired Skills: Working knowledge of Federal, state and local Environmental, Safety and Health regulations and recognized standards.
