Title: Satellite Technician DSCS/RHN Location: Kuwait Req Number: SD-MEO-TSC-KU-SAT-15553 Position Description: POSITION TITLE: DSCS/RHN Satellite Technician FUNCTIONAL TITLE: DSCS/RHN SATCOM Technician POSITION SUMMARY: Specialty Summary: Under the general supervision of the shift supervisor the technician is responsible for all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the baseband and satellite systems associated with a strategic satellite communications facility. The technician is required to possess a level of experience and proficiency to perform end-to-end testing of satellite communications links to maintain reliable communications for all users accessing the facility. The technician will maintain and update changes in circuit status, maintain maintenance records, update drawings and charts, and perform necessary software/hardware upgrades as required. Technicians who are familiar with operations and maintenance of the following: Defense Satellite Communications Systems (DSCS) Terminals, (AN/GSC-39, AN-GSC-49 AN/GSC-52, and AN/GSC-78 terminals) or Ku/KA Band Satellite Equipment (AN/FSC-133, JNN/CPN terminals). Technicians will perform all maintenance on equipment in a manner which shall provide minimum impact on the system while still providing satisfactory service during the maintenance period. The satellite communications terminal shall be maintained to provide an overall availability of not less than 99.95% percent. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Working environment will be 96% indoors, 4% outdoors. Individual should be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. The outside work environment will be very hot due to conditions within the region in. Personnel will also be required to stand for long periods of time. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Spectrum Analyzers Power Meters Multimeters Plotters O-Scope Firebird Test Set GCCC Order wire FREEDOM TO ACT: The position will report directly to the various supervisors/managers within the Communications Facility. Experience Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma required. Some college is preferable. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of specialized experience with transmission systems and working knowledge of maintaining high frequency radio and satellite/microwave equipments. The experience must have been acquired within the last 10 years. Possess a demonstrated knowledge in the testing of equipment, devices, components, systems and methodologies for the US Forces Communications Systems and transmission equipments, including evaluation of test data in peace and wartime conditions. A demonstrated knowledge and skills to perform complex repair work, alignments, test, and monitoring of transmission equipments for US manufactured military telecommunications equipment and its ancillary components. A demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Department of Defense (DOD) military missions, structure, doctrine, technical standards and specifications, and security requirements.
