Title: Safety & Reliability Engineer (Specialist) Location: OH-Mount Vernon
The Safety & Reliability Engineer will be working in a small group of dedicated and knowledgeable specialists with a mix of expertise in a predominately engine and control system engineering environment. There is a constant mix of small and large projects ongoing with changing priorities depending on in service arisings. This requires someone that is dynamic and able to change focus quickly and efficiently. The nature of the work requires the ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team. Depending on your level of knowledge and experience you may be overseeing and supervising the work of other team members, acting as a consultant to senior management or developing working practices and establishing business processes and links. The ability to communicate well with tact and establish good working relationships at all levels throughout the business is essential given the nature of the work.
This position will be responsible for ensuring that new designs and in service products deliver and maintain acceptable levels of safety, reliability and availability. Additionally through the incorporation of maintainability tools and techniques ensure the products are designed for minimum through life costs within the constraints of the overall business objectives.
Key Accountabilities for this role include: * Perform preliminary hazard identification, functional failure propagation assessments, and reliability allocation analysis in support of design concepts * Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) at early design stage in support of parts classification recommendation and educate the relevant suppliers on engine / sub-system / component reliability concerns and work with them in producing reliability and FMEA reports on their scope of supply * Perform reliability and availability analysis for engine components, control systems and accessories or other package subsystems to recommend configurations that meet customer expectations regarding reliability and availability * Perform full hazard identification with respect to personnel safety as well as Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) to recommend design changes and/or protection features in support of product standardization / certification and meeting regulatory agency requirements, and work to have them incorporated * Keep abreast of field engine safety and reliability concerns (e.g., quality, design and operational issues) and work with internal and external customers to achieve solutions for in service reliability and/or safety problems * Perform root cause analysis as part of a failure investigation team as necessary and produce clear and concise engineering reports to document safety, reliability and RAMS analysis conclusions and recommendations made to designers, development engineers and product support teams * Actively promote and develop RAMS capability throughout the business, particularly to minimize Life Cycle Costs * Provide leadership and training to newer team members and support colleagues, as necessary and maintain and promote operating procedures with a continuous improvement attitude
Basic: * Bachelor's degree and 5 plus years experience or in lieu of a Bachelors degree 10 plus years experience is required Preferred: * Mechanical component safety and reliability experience * Electrical/Electronic component experience is a bonus * Prior knowledge of gas turbine engine operation is beneficial
