Summary
This position is responsible for driving technology surveillance and leading analytical innovation activities in the Test Technology group of the BioScience Global Quality organization. This individual has the expertise and experience in state-of-the-art protein characterization and separation techniques (HPLCs, LC-MS, CE), and their applications to support biopharmaceutical product development/characterization and new technology introduction. This position manages and executes division-level projects, and represents the department in cross-functional teams for driving technology improvement initiatives and addressing technical and quality issues. This individual will supervise and mentor junior staff of the team, and is expected to contribute technical knowledge and skills in his/her scientific area of expertise, preferably in the field of analytical chemistry and protein characterization. This individual is also expected to be familiar with GLP/GMP regulations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities;
•Identify state-of-the-art methods/techniques and judge applicability to Baxter product portfolio
•Demonstrate proof-of-concept for new platforms by networking with instrument vendors, managing and executing feasibility studies, and writing study reports/white papers
•Develop and implement new techniques/instrumentation that will benefit future products/projects
•Participate and lead activities of laboratory instrument qualification, test method development and validation
•Troubleshoot and identify improvements to current test methods and equipment
•Manage Bioscience Division-level projects by interfacing with customers and overseeing deliverables, timelines, and budgets
•Participate in cross-functional teams as a scientific and/or quality expert to identify and address quality issues/improvements
•Prepare the department for audit by both internal and external authorities, and serve as a subject matter expert and interface with investigators during these inspections
•Support laboratory quality systems and operation, and supervise project/function team. Ensure team members are properly trained and audited. Make appropriate staffing recommendations. Evaluate performance via performance appraisals and ensure employees have development plans.

Job Requirements
Qualification;
•Rigorous training background in chemical or physical sciences
•Expert scientific knowledge, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•Demonstrated expertise in specialized laboratory instruments, techniques, and principles (eg, immunoassays, chromatography) and proven ability to perform skilled bench work, especially in the area of protein characterization.
•Proficiency with the MS Office suite of programs, as well as advanced tools for scientific analyses
•Excellent verbal and written communications toolbox, including the ability to write in-depth scientific study reports
•Success in supervising a small team
•Good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.

Education and/or Experience;
Bachelor's Degree in a biochemical or physical science (e.g., Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or equivalent) and >8 years successful research work is required. Master's Degree with >5 years experience, or Ph.D. with >3 years experience is preferable.
Working Environment;
•May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and celite that may require respiratory protection.
•Occasionally, may be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.
•Will have interaction with other people.
•Pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high. Physical Demand;
•The overall physical exertion of this position is medium work.
•May be required to lift up to 50 pounds when handling sample and or reagent receiving.
•May be required to carry frequently when handling sample and reagent receiving.
•May be required movement of head /neck frequently when using the microscope for cell counting.
•May be required to visually inspect frequently when performing release testing of product.
