As one of the largest ground forces in the world, the U.S. Army needs to make sure that all forces can get the correct information. The Army communications maintenance team is responsible for making sure that all communications equipment is in top working order. This equipment allows the Army to track and direct troop, aircraft and watercraft movements.

The Radar Repairer is an essential member of the Army communications maintenance team. The Radar Repairer performs or supervises field and sustainment level maintenance on ground surveillance radar and associated equipment, radar electronic assemblies and associated equipment and meteorological equipment. Installs repairs and maintains a working knowledge of how to operate military Radar equipment. Some of your duties as a Radar Repairer may include:
* Troubleshoot radar and associated equipment assemblies, subassemblies, modular and circuit elements with common and system peculiar test equipment for deficiencies and malfunctions
* Repair, remove, and/or replace defective components and parts
* Test repaired system to ensure compliance with technical specifications
* Inspect, test, and adjust system components and test equipment to specific tolerances
* Determine serviceability and disposition of radar systems assemblies, subassemblies, and parts
* Perform initial, in-process, on-site technical and quality control inspections
* Prepare and maintain equipment logs, equipment modification and utilization records, exchange tags, and calibration data cards

Training
Job training for Radar Repairer requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 45 weeks of Advanced Individual Training and on-the-job instruction, including practice in repairing and replacing equipment parts. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Some of the skills you'll learn are:
* Application of electronic principles and concepts
* Inspection techniques and procedures
* Use of electronic test equipment
* Repair and replacement of Radar equipment

* Perform initial and final checkout and inspection of designated system items, assemblies, and subassemblies
* Calibrate radar, organizational maintenance, and antenna alignment test sets
