Title: Quality Inspector, Product Assurance Location: CA, Van Nuys Req Number: itti-00017902 Position Description: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects subsystems and complete major systems, including detail assemblies during first article assembly and in-process fabrication.
Ensures that the all product is complete and that workmanship, both electronic and mechanical, fully comply with company and customer specifications.
Inspects supplied product as required to support Receiving and Manufacturing Inspection areas.
Supports the development, maintenance, and implementation of QA policies, procedures, instructions and other manuals, bulletins, and metrics.
DUTIES
1. Inspects first article detail and lower-level component build-up and completed major subsystems and subsequent systems, ascertaining that the electronic and mechanical assembly criteria and documentation conform to contractual, company, customer, and industry specifications and standards (i.e. Mil-Specs/Standards, IPC-610/620, etc.).
2. Reviews, audits, and assures the implementation of pertinent Quality Assurance Plans, specifications and all other special information related to the contracts being processed.
3. Maintains a historical first article and in-process filing system in accordance with Quality Program procedures and instructions.
4. Correlates and pro-actively coordinates timely resolution of quality departures with Product Assurance, Manufacturing, and Engineering personnel during component and system build-up through completion of final product.
5. Presents completed first article systems and applicable details to customers for final acceptance.
6. Responsibility includes the control, inventory, and auditing of precision measuring instruments for inspection. Precision instrument and gauges shall include: Calipers, veneers, micrometers, gauge blocks, protractors, crimping and other precision tools.
7. Inspects supplied product as required to support Receiving and Manufacturing Inspection needs in a timely manner.
8. Maintains and reports weekly/monthly Product Assurance metrics in accordance with Quality Program.
9. May guide or assist other employees as necessary.
10. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Experience Requirements: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Requires an Associate's degree in a related Engineering Technology field or equivalent and a minimum of four (4) years of directly related inspector or certified quality technician experience in an ISO 9001 or AS9100 manufacturing/engineering environment. ASQ-Certified Quality Inspector or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Must be proficient in the use of all standard mechanical and electronic inspection tools (i.e. calipers, thread gages, microscope, etc.), understand types of measurement, measurement terminology, the different types of measurement scales, and have basic calibration knowledge.
Must have experience working with ESD products and be certified in IPC-610 and IPC-620 is highly desirable. Must have the ability to become forklift certified.
Lean or Six-Sigma Green Belt certifications preferred.
KNOWLEDGE
Must know basic quality terms, definitions and concepts, including basic statistical terms and techniques, how to plot data and how to recognize out-of-control conditions, and the definition of PDCA and understand the team concept.
Must have general knowledge of ASME Y14.5M, working knowledge of GD&T, and must understand the x, y, z coordinate system.
Must have an in-depth knowledge of quality control/inspection principles and military standards and specifications, testing methods, and understand traceability (product, material and calibration).
Must have average level proficiency in Microsoft suite of tools (e.g. Excel, Word, Access, Visio & Project).
ABILITIES
Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic team environment, interfacing with personnel at all technical and managerial levels.
Must be able to identify and report nonconforming material.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and know definitions of critical, major and minor characteristics, the difference between accuracy and precision and be able to select the appropriate measuring tools and techniques,
Must be able to use inspection planning tools and perform a product audit; determine sample size for lots; pull random samples.
Must be able to make sound, inventive and resourceful decisions regarding work and priorities within area of responsibility to ensure timely inspection and resolution of issues.
