The Project Engineer Internship involves all engineering activities associated with a capital investment project. The project engineering role is focused on leading integration of the total engineering effort over the project life from inception to commercial operation. As a summer intern, the project engineer would be expected to understand and participate in the standard project processes used to define and document the project scope as well as valuing adding activities that drive cost effectiveness and continuous improvement. The project engineer is responsible for managing the capital investment & cost control of the project as well as maintaining the project engineering schedule. The summer intern role would work under advisement of a more senior project engineer to insure that all safety, technical, and ethical requirements of the project were being met in accordance with DuPont and external standards.
Key Responsibilities * Is an active member of the project team, capable of understanding technical issues and leading problem solving. * Is responsible for working with both DuPont and non-DuPont engineering and design resources as needed during the life of the project to meet project objectives. * Participates in the FEL process including preparation of project scopes of work, capital cost estimates and project schedules, and the Production Design Basis elements. * Coordinates with production/detailed engineering and design activities that typically take place in remote locations. * Works with team members to ensure design and procurement deliverables meet objectives. * Maintains effective communications with team members. * Manages non-capital cost, capital investment, and use of engineering/technical resources within budget and schedule constraints. * Implements capital project work processes and practices effectively. The candidate must be self-motivated, have strong interest in project engineering as a career, and be able to work effectively in a team environment with people of different levels and functions who are geographically and culturally diverse. The ability to work independently, organize work and set priorities is also required.
Travel may be required from time to time consistent with the needs of the project.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required * Candidate must have completed at least junior level (3rdyear) course work in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related engineering fields. Candidates who have completed some or all senior level (4thyear) course work and are preparing for advanced degree studies will be preferred * Excellent leadership skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; willing to delegate * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Results-oriented and disciplined to follow project processes and procedures * Working knowledge of MS Office, e-mail * Willingness to learn from others * Candidates with previous co-op or intern experience working in an operating manufacturing plant or engineering/design office will be preferred * Must be self-motivated, have strong interest in project engineering as a career, and be able to work effectively in a team environment with people of different levels and functions who are geographically and culturally diverse * The ability to work independently, organize work and set priorities is also required * Must be able to work 2-4 months uninterrupted during the summer of 2012
