Job Description :
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This position functions in the Product Engineering Department with emphasis on sustaining current products and derivatives of current product design. Product design functions include technical specifications, developing derivations of existing products (CAD/Solidworks) , material understanding and selection, mechanical and electrical design calculations and analysis, prototyping, reliability testing, and releasing engineering documents for full product implementation.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Learning, supporting, and developing electrical connectors as assigned 2. Work with third party regulatory agency requirements (UL, CSA, etc.) and coordinate with internal agency group in conducting testing and obtaining ratings. 3. Technically support Operations on existing and launching new products. 4. Interfaces, supports, and works with Marketing for existing and future products 5. Leads all assigned New Product Development projects from development to completion, satisfying all Critical Customer and Critical Business Requirements in accordance with fiscal Division plans. 6. Identify, select, conduct, and instruct on testing and testing equipment for existing and new products. 7. Prepares, modifies, checks, and/or approves for release engineering documents for assigned product lines. 8. Provide problem resolution to manufacturing issues pertaining to product design and functionality 9. Investigates, solves, and error proofs all assigned problems in support of the all internal business and manufacturing processes. 10. Perform other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager. Job Requirements :
This position reports to the Engineering Manager. The incumbent will support existing products and final development and launch of new products. He/she will also direct teams, committees, and ad hoc groups assembled to address design, quality, safety and manufacturability issues. A percentage of design effort may be for government contracts, which are specification and testing intensive. The incumbent is required to devote approximately 50% of time acting as a resource to other departments and customers. Various other obligations of this position include cost improvements, patent disclosures, and occasional travel in support of design and manufacturing activities. Skills include working with CAD systems, polymer and metallic material selection, design costing, project management, team coordination, technical report writing, and personal computer knowledge (spreadsheet, word processor, etc.). Business travel is at times required.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
This position requires BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with preferably 5 years relevant experience in design and development of electrical components. Good knowledge of tooling, production, quality control and product design required. Six sigma, VAVE engineering, lean, project management experience is helpful. Computer proficiency with CAD, (Solidworks, Autocad). Ability to conduct mechanical FEA analysis is a plus. Microsoft Office software proficiency is required. Good oral and written communication skills are required.
