Product Development Engineer
Penn Aluminum International LLC is a premier manufacturer of Aluminum custom extruded shapes, and drawn tubing. Penn was founded in 1923 and acquired by The Marmon Group in 1971.
We are currently seeking a Product Development Engineer to join our growing team! This position can be located in Murphysboro, IL or Weyers Cave, VA.
Job Summary:
Conceptualize, design, develop, test and release new products in support of business growth strategy and objectives. The position requires working closely with our customers, suppliers and our manufacturing group to design products that provide solutions for our customers and enhances our company growth.
Credentials and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
4+ years of experience in new product development and product launches
Proficiency in Computer Aided Design is essential. Solidworks, ProEngineer or AutoCAD experience is preferred.
Must have excellent computer skills
Must be innovative/problem solver
Project management experience required
Knowledge/experience in patent process a plus
Aluminum extrusion experience preferred, but not required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience developing and implementing innovative and creative new product ideas
Proven ability to work successfully with customers and their engineering personnel to identify their needs and then develop product solutions to meet those needs
Knowledge of the principles of design for metal components
Knowledge of product applications in the appliance, refrigeration, plumbing and utilities industries
Ability to work effectively in a team environment including Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and Production personnel
Ability to apply idea generation techniques to the creation and evaluation of new product ideas and product concepts.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven time management, organizational and project management skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
Create new product ideas
Design and development of approved new products
Coordinate prototype part and tooling design
Evaluate new part manufacturing related to cost and quality
Develop proper testing procedure and standards for new products
Design testing fixtures, jigs and gauges as needed
Assist customers’ engineering personnel with the development of new product concepts
Select materials based on application environment and commercial targets
Stay abreast of new product developments and material offerings
Prepare and present technical presentations to customers in support of the sales and marketing organization as needed
