Principal Mechanical Engineer / Switch Design EngineerExternal Job Title Principal Mechanical Engineer / Switch Design Engineer AutoReqId 44101BR Business Function Engineering Division Electrical Sensing & Controls Division Job Description Eaton Corporation's Electrical Sensing and Controls Division of Eaton Aerospace located in Costa Mesa, California has an opening for a Principal Mechanical Engineer / Switch Design Engineer.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer / Switch Design Engineer will be responsible for new design concepts and state-of-the-art mechanical designs for aerospace applications. Products include electro-mechanical devices with particular emphasis on pushbutton annunciators, complex miniature mechanisms, cockpit control panels, pilot controls and electronic systems.
Essential Functions: Candidate will be responsible for performing the following tasks:
1. Create new products and modify existing products to support customer, applicable regulatory and industry standards, and market requirements through the use of CAD modeling techniques.
2. Initiate and promote generation of new ideas and document it for patent application and IP protection.
3. Analyze drawing models using Pro/E, FEA, stress analysis, thermal analysis, dynamic analysis, etc.
4. Perform reliability analysis, tolerance stack ups, and Design Failure Modes and Effects analysis (FMEA).
5. Prepare, review, and approve design and process documentation.
6. Support design reviews, both customer and internal as required.
7. Participate in the process of bids and proposals, estimating non-recurring expense (NRE), recurring cost, and writing proposal technical content.
8. Participate in defining engineering approaches including the planning and scheduling of work, participating in cost reduction activities in support of plant level cost out goals.
9. Participate on multi-discipline concurrent development and corrective action teams.
10. Create and implement test procedures for products based on product requirements and customer specifications.
11. Monitor testing and analyze data to verify performance of the prototype product to customer and design specifications. Review and approve test reports.
12. Provide leadership/mentoring to junior engineers and designers in the group Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements) Basic Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution - 5 years of engineering experience in the aerospace or manufacturing industries working on switches or mechanisms. - 3 years of experience working with 3D CAD software (Pro-E, Solidworks, or closely related) - 3 years of experience doing geometric dimension and tolerance (GD&T) - 3 years of experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint. - Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications - MSME with Aerospace experience is preferred - Experience with ANSYS or other FEA tools - Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE) - MS Project experience - DOORS software requirements management software experience - Knowledge of Enovia or other product design mgt tools (PDM) system for documentation control and workflow Region North America - US/Puerto Rico Country United States State California City Costa Mesa Employee category Regular Experience Level 5-7 years Travel Required Up to 10 percent Relocation benefit provided?
