Rockwell Collins is a pioneer in the development and deployment of innovative communication and aviation electronic solutions for both commercial and government applications. The Rockwell Collins Advanced Technology Center (ATC) identifies, develops and transitions technologies that support the growth of our business. We have expertise in flight deck avionics, cabin electronics, mission communications, information management and simulation and training solutions.
The Advanced Technology Center is seeking a leader of the Flight Deck Systems Section to develop and transition innovative technologies to the Rockwell Collins business units. Reporting to the Director, Embedded Information Systems, this position is responsible for the systems engineering and support personnel within the Advanced Technology Center. As a key member of the engineering leadership team, this position requires performing all aspects of hiring, leading and mentoring the technical staff, critical interpersonal and leadership skills, substantial technical depth-of-knowledge, as well as familiarity with Collins design processes and systems. Effective and timely decision-making is a key attribute of the position. Contacts within the aviation research community, and R&D contract pursuit experience is desirable.
Position responsibilities include capturing relevant external technology contracts, leading strategic technology planning, executing research projects, managing budgets, and developing the team's skills and capabilities. As a technology leader, the manager is responsible for global technology awareness, cultivating external relationships, and ensuring technology transition to the business units.
An important research area for this section regards aircraft-centric capabilities associated with the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) being envisioned by FAA and industry as part of the FAA SE-2020 program. Leadership is expected across a wide range of avionics systems ranging from initial concept development, analyses, simulation, and flight test evaluations and demonstrations. Avionic subsystem knowledge and experience is beneficial in flight deck display systems, flight management systems, communications, navigation, surveillance, network-enabled weather in support of flight operations, human factors, human-in-the-loop simulations, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs), safety analysis, standards development, and aircraft simulators.
This position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline, and ten years of related experience, or, in the absence of a bachelor's degree, sixteen years of related experience.
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card) is required.
