Power Systems Modeling Engineer

Location and team
Our Electricity Transmission and Distribution (ETD) Group is seeking an electrical engineer with aspirations to become an expert in experience with power systems analysis, modeling, operations, and control for transmission and distribution systems. Energy storage and/or power system model development and deployment using MatLab and Excel as major development platforms. The successful candidate will be based in the Raleigh, NC, or Fairfax, VA, offices.
Tasks may include
• Energy storage and/or power system model development and deployment using MatLab and Excel as major development platforms. • Assist with power system study execution, including data acquisition and model development. • Assist with modeling studies to investigate feasibility of integrating renewable energy sources. • Assist with modeling studies and analyses to evaluate system power flows, voltage regulation, and stability under a variety of contingency conditions. • Assist with modeling studies to determine if reliability and power quality standards are met for existing and potential future system designs. • Assist with writing deliverable documents (formal reports, letter reports, white papers, articles, technical papers, and proposals).
What we're asking
• Degree in Electrical Engineering • 0-3 years related industry experience • Familiarity with power systems concepts such as power flow, short circuit, system stability, and reliability. • Familiarity with modeling tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, Power Factory, Aspen OneLiner, MatLab, etc. • Direct experience with project management methods, including scheduling, cost control, risk and change-order management, scope control, budget control, quality control, project staffing, and status reporting. • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Strong skills in organizing and documenting technical work. • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work in multi-disciplinary teams. • Willing to travel about 30% of the time. • Strong problem-solving and analytical reasoning skills. • Exhibits a can-do attitude and considers professional development an on-going activity. • Direct experience with electric utility and/or manufacturer organizations a plus.
