Description:
SUMMARY
Modifies designs for Nuclear product lines and provides product support by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Analyzes research data or customer specifications and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.

Possesses and maintains a knowledge of ASME Boiler Code, sections II and III, current year as well as previous years.

Develops workplans and schedules, prepares progress reports. Confers with research, customer service or sales personnel or customers to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.

Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics including establishment of new part numbers and bills of material or configuration rules..

Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system. Plans and develops experimental test programs or performs or has performed calculations to verify design adequacy.

Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Prepares reports for newly performed tests or analysis.

Confers with customer service, sales, customers and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.

Confers with industrial engineers, suppliers and production personnel and applies a broad knowledge of manufacturing processes to assure manufacturability.

Prepares or directs preparation of instruction manuals, illustrations and other technical information for projects and for general sales literature. Reviews sales literature to technical accuracy.

Checks work performed by product engineers, senior designers, designer/drafters and drafters for accuracy and completeness.

Resolves production problems either in house or at suppliers' facilities.

Analyzes product performance problems and recommends solutions to satisfy customer requirements, including analysis of returned product.

Dispositions nonconforming material or products and initiates corrective action.

Develops data for and reviews sales literature for technical accuracy.

When assigned, combines all of the above taking overall technical responsibility for all engineering aspects of specific product lines including special customer orders, modifications and improvements, problem resolution, drawings, bills of material, configuration rules, procedures, manuals and sales literature.

Conducts training on products and procedures in area of expertise.

Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Provides technical direction to assigned design/drafting personnel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.S.M.E.) from four-year college or university; and 3 - 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of two years' experience in the design aspects of the Nuclear industry is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and calculus. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. A thorough understanding of Boolean logic is required.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to understand and apply Boolean logic.

COMPUTING SKILLS
Ability to utilize computer aided design and engineering tools. Ability to prepare original computer programs in high level languages such as Basic, Pascal, C+. Ability to utilize word processing software, prepare spreadsheets and databases and to navigate and use custom applications in a MS Windows environment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
EIT Certificate is preferred.
