SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Respond to market conditions by integrating next generation products into portfolio. Perform engineering work and development of aviation/avionic lighting products. Work includes mechanical design and evaluation, with emphasis on quality, schedule, manufacturability, and cost. Working knowledge of injection molding, vacuum forming, casting/forging, extrusion, metal forming/fabricating and machining techniques. Provide technical direction to supporting personnel to resolve design and related manufacturing problems. Ensure production feasibility of designs and provide production support of mechanical products, as s position quotes, develops, designs, and procures tools/molds for rubber molding on injection, transfer, and compression molding and thermoplastic molding machines which include any support tooling and special equipment required to produce a complete product. Incumbent will assist molding department in setup, qualification, and factory trial of this new tooling. This positions supervises the tool draftsperson and tool makers. _____________________________________________________________________ PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Design, develop, and procure molds for injection, transfer, and compression presses for rubber products and various mold styles for thermoplastic molding machines. Designs the support tooling, fixturing and special equipment to support the completed lyze product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing or new manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Review designs to assure compliance with customer requirements.
1. Provide design engineering the technical assistanceconcerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planningrequired to design products for ease of manufacturing and economies. 2. Perform as project engineer on major product ect and coordinate manufacturing or building of prototype product or system. Train manufacturing personnel on correct methods and procedures necessary for production. 3. Assist molding department in setup, qualification, and factory trial of related tooling, including training of molders. 4. Insure that the latest production molding and process techniques are utilized within the budget of the project. 5. Complete tooling cost and delivery estimates on time. Evaluate and recommend solutions to tooling and production problems within budget and time pile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product. 6. Analyze test data and report to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. 7. Support tool control procedures using established procedures. 8. Initiate purchase requisitions for molds/tools/supplies and follows up on deliveries. 9. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements :
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The principal products of this Division are molded rubber and plastic products. The incumbent works primarily as a mold design engineer concentrating on high quality, productive injection tooling. He/she will also establish and improve mold/tool design, process engineering and maintenance, and initiate continuous improvements based on improved manufacturing methods or processes. The mold design engineer is responsible for estimating and procuring these mew molds, tools, etc. He/she will solve production problems to maintain production goals. This position supervises four tool model makers. _____________________________________________________________________ EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
This position requires a B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent, seven years experience in injection mold/tool design, with factory production experience in rubber and plastic injection molding. This position requires developing a broad knowledge of Cooper Interconnect products, operations, methods, and materials utilized. Incumbent must have the ability to interact with a wide range of personnel. Solid Works/ 3D Modeling Software, Auto CAD, Mechanical Design Validation and Verification Testing, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) proficiency also required. SAP experience preferred.
