Mechanical Technician
Mechanical Systems Technician (HVAC) Museum of Science, Boston Innovation and creativity come from the unique perspectives of a diverse staff. We value your perspective. SUMMARY STATEMENT: Assists with the mechanical operation of the Facilities Department, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and miscellaneous maintenance services. Responsible for performing preventative maintenance work, repair work on systems, and other routine and emergency maintenance operations as assigned by the Maintenance Coordinator or the Facilities office. DIMENSIONS: 750,000 sq. ft. Occasionally supervises and advises several contractors. Occasionally oversees 1 - 2 staff. Works on several projects simultaneously. Works varying shifts. ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENTS: 1. On weekends and evenings, in the absence of other facilities staff, contact mechanical contractors, prioritize trouble calls, requests and building system needs to provide timely emergency action and repair of the system necessary to insure the safety and comfort of our staff and visitors. 2. At times, may schedule the building management system which includes temperature control, lighting control, and air handler function. This is primarily in response to system alarms and visitor and staff requests for building environmental adjustments. 3. Performs preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance routines and services on mechanical and some electrical systems. Assists with other facility repair and maintenance which may include electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, snow removal, grounds maintenance, and miscellaneous repair work in order to keep equipment in proper operation, which will ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasing environment for our staff and visitors. May oversee helpers in these situations. 4. Performs emergency maintenance and repair projects as required to keep the Museum open and operating within certain parameters. Periodically supervises helpers. 5. Assists in maintaining any required repair and maintenance record logs, or files in order to provide interdepartmental communications, work and equipment histories. 6. Assists in maintaining clean, orderly, and properly stocked maintenance shop and facilities spaces so that facilities operations can proceed in a safe, expedient and orderly manner. 7. Responsible for responding to emergency incidents on the property that may be a threat to the safety of staff, guests, and property. Emergency incidents include but are not limited to bomb threats, fire alarms, natural disasters, power or equipment failure, building evacuations and other crises as defined in the Museum's Emergency Preparedness and Management Plan (EPAMP). 8. Perform other work-related duties as required by Manager. WORK SCHEDULE: Regular full-time (40 hrs/wk): Tuesday through Saturday, 8am-4pm. Be on call 24 hours a day to ensure continuous operation of facility systems. May be required to work additional hours on weekends, holidays and overtime as requested by management. REPORTS TO: Manager of Facilities STARTING SALARY: Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
