Mechanical & Structural Engineer Manager K

The Stress group at Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) in Long Beach (CA) has experienced strong growth over the last 6 years. The current stress group consists of 180 engineers organized into six Stress Teams. This requisition is to fill a seventh Stress manager position which will have approximately 25 direct reports. The position will require minimum monthly travel within the United States, primarily to Seattle.

The new manager responsibilities will include the following:
Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Mechanical & Structural Engineering with focus on stress management. Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals. Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes. Manages, develops and motivates employees.

The ideal candidate for this position will have strong technical as well as managerial capabilities. The minimum technical requirements are ten years of general stress experience, preferably in aircraft wing, fuselage, floors structures or Damage Tolerance / fatigue. This experience must be accompanied by strong classical hand analysis skills, & solid finite element analysis capability. Computer skills must be excellent, with a working knowledge of Catia V5. A familiarity with Boeing and MDC (McDonnell Douglas Corporation) drawing conventions, as well as the Boeing drawing release and documentation system is desired. Prior management experience is desirable but not required. Large Scale Systems Integration (LSSI) or past large program / project management with abilities to work across multiple disciplines and customers is preferred.

The successful candidate must be a team player, with strong stress & finite element analysis skills, excellent leadership capabilities, and a strong commitment to employee growth and development. This individual will also be responsible to perform other managerial duties such as performance monitoring & evaluation, training, and mentoring.

Other necessary skills and abilities:
The applicant must be capable of reviewing work to ensure technical accuracy, and helping analysts to solve problems and to find solutions, as needed. Solid working knowledge of FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) rules and their application to aircraft interiors is preferred.

Strong inter-personal and communication skills, as well as high standards of ethics and integrity are required. Must also posses the ability to establish resource requirements, to manage allocations, to establish and evaluate performance, to coach individuals, and to oversee process and/or project activities. Must have the ability to plan, delegate and execute activities within demanding schedule constraints. Candidate must be team oriented and highly dedicated, with the ability to function diplomatically and effectively in a multi-program, multi-site, Integrated Product Team environment.
Education:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering required. Master of Science in Engineering or MBA preferred.
