Role Summary/Purpose The Packaging Design Engineer will be responsible for the electromechanical design effort involved in developing a robust structure to support the battery cells, and interface with customer equipment. This effort will involve developing practical and innovative ways to identify and meet design and business goals. Candidate is responsible for work that is less defined in scope and has the understanding and experience to execute business objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
* Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements

* Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project

* Documents technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures

* Provides timely communications on significant issues or developments

* Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues

* Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Qualifications/Requirements
* Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Sciences

* Minimum of 5 years of design experience with packaging of electronic / electrical equipment
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

* Ability and willingness to travel to our research and development facility in Derby, UK as required
Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
Desired Characteristics
* Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering

* Six Sigma or related problem solving expertise (Green or Black Belt) (GE employees only)

* Previous experience in the renewable energy, energy storage, UPS, and/or a drive train-related industry

* Solid experience with structural and thermal finite element analysis (ANSYS)

* Experience with sizing, routing, supporting and testing power conducting components, such as cables, bus bars, connectors, and wire harnesses

* Experience with sheet metal structures and weld design

* Experience working and directing drafting personnel in a design environment

* Experience with product structuring and bills of material

* Experience with validation of electromechanical components, including shock and vibration, dielectric and environmental testing

* Demonstrated leadership skills in a cross-functional environment

* Demonstrated accomplishments in customer-focused problem solving

* Self-directed, highly detail-oriented, organized, and flexible

* Strong oral and written communication skills

* Accomplishments that reflect leadership, teamwork, integrity, and accountability
