Currently, we have an exciting opening for the following position:

Manager, Mechanical Engineering

In addition to possessing a high degree of expertise in all areas of Mechanical Engineering, this individual must apply his/her technical abilities while working in a leadership role to incorporate input from internal and external customers and partners into the design process.  This individual must be an experienced problem solver with a proven track record of leading efforts to develop system-level solution architectures while keeping a strong focus on company-wide goals.

Your main areas of focus will include:

• Travel to customer sites as needed to support sales with direct selling activities; onsite technical input, technical option discussion/presentations and any other supported needed to win new accounts.


• Work with Marketing to determine best product solutions for each market we serve.


• Support the creation of quotes and proposals so that Kontron provides information to the customer, which is accurate and timely.


• Play the technical leader role for sales as a resource in relation to solution feasibility, regulatory guidelines, ruff order of magnitude costing, development timeframes.


• Help improve / enhance our quoting / selling process, and custom services process to continuously improve our custom development capabilities.


• Support transition of proposals into the custom services process


• Provide guidance to sales on Kontron engineering capabilities to allow sales to better sell our products and services.


• Work with and support sales with direct selling activities, on site technical input, technical option discussion/presentations and any other supported needed to win new accounts.


• Work with Marketing to determine the best product solutions for each market we server.


• Support the creation of quotes and proposals so that Kontron provides information to the customer that is accurate and timely.


• Play the technical leader role for sales as a resource in relation to solution feasibility, regulatory guidelines, ruff order of magnitude costing, development timeframes.


• Provide guidance to sales on Kontron engineering capabilities to allow sales to better sell our products and services.


• Must take ownership of designs serving as the champion of satisfying customers. 


• Must assist in maintaining team focus on goals and objectives


• Must translate customer requirements into specifications that solve the problem and satisfy customer expectations.


• Must exhibit and utilize a working knowledge of other technical fields in the industry to steer the creation system architectures.


• Must lead cross functional groups through design projects.


• Must provide company-wide guidance in the development of Intellectual Property.


• Must remain current with available tools and recognize when a tool could improve efficiency and accuracy


• Must lead and participate in design reviews.


• Must lead and contribute to “Post-Mortem" analyses of past projects for the purpose of improving on past performance.


• Represents the company at industry related events.


• Must be current with industry trends in the areas of design, manufacturing processes, materials and testing.


• Must be capable of generating a complete and thorough product specification from a Market Requirements Document (MRD).


• Must be capable of documenting all aspects of designs according to Kontron processes and procedures.


• Must be able to apply geometric tolerancing to engineering documentation


• Must verify that designs meet all specifications and requirements.


• Must remain current with market trends and competitive solutions.


• Must execute designs that achieve the lowest overall cost.


• Must practice Concurrent Engineering, with serviceability and manufacturability being incorporated into the design from the beginning.


• Help improve / enhance our quoting / selling process, and enhanced services process to continuously improve our custom development capabilities.


• Must demonstrate proficient usage of problem solving tools such as cause and effect analysis, FMEA, FMA.


• Must interact with customer service to analyze field service issues and feedback.


• Must generate project proposals for solutions in Custom, and Standard businesses


• Must identify and track resources, costs and schedules for design projects


• Must ensure that time to market requirements are met and that schedules are maintained


• Must determine and consider component availability in designs as pertinent to schedule and other project goals


• Must work effectively with marketing to assist in generating roadmaps and MRDs


• Must understand, and interpret customer requirements as they are incorporated into the MRD


• Support transition of proposals into the custom services process

Ideally, you will have:

• BSME or advanced degree preferred.


• 10 or more years of experience in Mechanical Engineering Field


• Design of rack-mount equipment


• Computer chassis design or sheet metal enclosures


• IPC, CPCI or similar field.


• 3D solid modeling


• Environmental testing


• Shock and vibration


• UL/Safety, CE and FCC


• Project management tools, earned value tools


• Takes the initiative, seeks out problem solutions and can make critical decisions


• Willingness and ability to interact personally with co-workers and team members to facilitate timely problem solving.
