Mechanical Engineer Sr Professional

Essential Job Functions
* Assists in the planning and conceptualization of new products and product enhancements. Assists in mechanical design meetings to prepare project plans and objectives in conjunction with business development, product support and other team members.
* Develops and analyzes mechanical designs for current and conceptualized hardware, components and systems. Prepares plans and drawings using design software.
* Develops qualification test procedures and performs qualification testing. Conducts testing and integration testing for functionality and limits. Examines and evaluates mechanical designs for feasibility.
* Creates working prototype(s) for beta testing and customer demonstration. Analyzes critical areas of the design including dimensional, structural, thermal, qualification, integration, etc. to identify correct configuration, integrity and feasibility of design(s). Prepares reports of results and conclusions. Recommends and implements changes to design based on conclusion.
* Assists with review of and interfaces with suppliers, vendors/contractors and cross functional teams to ensure necessary resources are available for product implementation. Provides expertise to production staff to ensure accurate production of product.
* Researches new technology and/or development tools to remain informed of current technology.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience * Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field preferred * Four or more years of experience in mechanical engineering or product design and development * Current registration as a Mechanical Engineer in the state of Texas (or ability for reciprocity from another state) LEED AP a plus * Ability to perform HVAC load calculations (computer based and manual) and implement equipment sizing, duct sizing and layout, pipe system design and layout including but not limited to plumbing, chilled water, heating water, steam, condensate, gas, compressed air, vacuum, lab gases and fire sprinklers * Understanding of all current mechanical codes and standards (i.e. IBC, ASHRAE, International Energy Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, NFPA, UPC, ASTM, ASME etc.) * Perform mechanical CAD design/drafting. MicroStation experience is preferred, Autocad experience is acceptable * Possess interpersonal skills to interact with customers, team members, vendors and contractors * Possess communication skills to interact with internal and external personnel and to convey project intent * Ability to apply analytical and creative problem solving skills to solve design problems * Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment * This position is located onsite at NASA JSC and requires US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status. * Experience working with mechanical design principles and practices * Experience working with product design principles * Experience working with drawing standards including tolerances and detailed drawings * Experience working with production processes to include fabrication, plastic injection molding, metal forming and/or machining processes
Other Qualifications
* Skills in computer assisted design (CAD) software such as Microstation and Autocad
* Skills in computer aided engineering (CAE) software such as NASTRA, FLUENT, ALCOR, MATLAB, etc.
* Organization and time management skills to maintain project deadlines
