Rockwell Collins HGS (Head up Guidance System) Mechanical Engineering is responsible for all mechanical engineering tasks related to the design, analysis, test and certification of aerospace head-up display and guidance products, both in the commercial and military fields. This includes equipment installation and ancillary sensors. Duties include all aspects of design, analysis and test, applying knowledge of theory and experience in computer aided tools. The successful candidate will be expected to perform autonomously under the direction of senior employees and begin to assume junior leadership roles. They will also mentor junior Engineers and provide guidance to designer and drafting employees. They will be expected to develop a high level of domain knowledge in areas including: Aircraft installations and precision optical alignment. Geometrically complex design constraints. Packaging of electronic and optical systems and robust precision mechanisms. Optimization of weight, volume, cost and manufacturability while meeting stringent structural, thermal and other environmental and functional requirements. Analysis and application of appropriate tolerances using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance principles. Design of test, calibration, manufacturing, installation and support equipment. Rigorous testing to industry and government standards, including authoring of test procedures and reports to support product requirements and certification. Provide input to new design concepts and requirements and perform initial product design and fit studies to support new product proposals, working with Optical, Electrical and Systems Engineers.

Critical Skills Needed: Sound knowledge and proven skills to 4 year bachelor degree level in the theory and application of the following. Mechanical engineering principles. Engineering materials and processes. Design for structural and thermal management. Static and dynamic analysis (thermal also preferred). Desktop computing applications. 3D CAD solid modeling, design and documentation (SolidWorks preferred). FEA tools (ANSYS preferred, CFD tools also preferred). GDT and assembly tolerance analysis. Ability to work both individually and as a cross functional team member. Good personal leadership skills. (Small team leadership skills preferred.)

Bachelor's Degree in applicable engineering or science field, or, in the absence of an bachelor's degree, six years of related engineering experience.
