Mechanical Design Engineer, Installations
This opportunity is for a challenging and rewarding position as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems (HSPS) / maker of Auxiliary Power Units for commercial and military airborne platforms. Located in San Diego California, HSPS has a diverse and rapidly expanding product line used on fixed and rotary aircraft. Our unique business and organization structure offers the enthusiastic engineer the ability to impact the business in all phases of development, qualification, production, and aftermarket.
The position being offered is for Mechanical Design Engineer working on components related to the installation and integration of APUs. These components include turbine engine components, inlet ducts, exhaust mufflers, and engine mounts.
Responsibilities include:
- Support multiple aspects of gas turbine engine design and installation.
- Work with OEM' to define APU compartment layout and aircraft interfaces.
- Develop engineering solutions backed up with technical data that will be formally reviewed by internal and external customers.
- Develop designs using Unigraphics CAD system.
- Interface with suppliers to develop optimized designs.
- Lead other engineering disciplines in team environment.
- Work to documented process that are continually being improved
Ideal candidate is creative, energetic, and eager to expand their engineering skills. Ideal candidate would also have demonstrated mechanical design aptitude, ability to perform basic stress analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and root cause failure analysis.
Familiarity with gas turbine engine fundamentals, materials, manufacturing methods, ANSI Y14.5, composites, and FEA software is desired. Proficiency of common PC software packages expected.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
