Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Cobham Composite Products is a leader in composites manufacturing with more than 25 years of production experience as a leader in development and production of advanced composite structural products for the aerospace and defense industries. We specialize in resin transfer molding (RTM), continuous fiber and discontinuous fiber compression molding, hand lay-up/autoclave cure, assembly and integration. Our Suffolk, VA operation is currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager.. This position reports to the Director of Operations. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager for the Suffolk facility is a key position within Cobham Composite Products Inc. This function will lead improvement effort for the manufacturing processes, both with continuous improvement projects and break through changes that create significant company efficiency gains. The responsibilities of this position will include, but not limited to:
Principal Responsibilities:
Directs the development, implementation and improvements of all manufacturing processes, tooling, controls, automation, and equipment to ensure best in class manufacturing processes. Responsible for departmental budget planning and establishing goals and targets for the Manufacturing Engineering Department to support the business unit targets and goals. Provide manufacturing insight and project deliverables to new or modified product projects and insure timely transition into manufacturing, with consideration to robust design, cost effectiveness, and ease of manufacturability.

e) Insures the department has defined skills development programs and stays current on all new manufacturing technologies.
Coordinates with the design engineering team on designs and design changes to ensure DFM is incorporated into early design effort. Provide effective transition into manufacturing; schedules manufacturing engineering work load to achieve a smooth implementation of work and changes. Works with multiple groups, including design engineering, program management, manufacturing, and quality assurance to implement production launches. Optimizes manufacturing processes as well as automation where economically justified. Performs other related duties as assigned
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the master production schedule for make-to-order and make-to-stock products.
- Coordinate scheduling activities with management and functional staff in the areas of sales forecasts, engineering, product development, purchasing, manufacturing, and customer service.
- Establish production objectives. Plan, schedule and prioritize the shop floor. Release and control shop orders. Analyze, monitor, and report production performance.
- Review bill of materials, routings, production specifications and plant capacity data in order to calculate requirements.
- Help to maintain minimal inventory levels while achieving maximum inventory throughput.
- Train and assist other personnel in production planning and systems. Cross-train other functional staff.
Requirements:
- Minimum of five years manufacturing engineering supervisory or managerial experience
- 10+ years relevant experience in Manufacturing Engineering with focus on Lean Manufacturing, breakthrough performance, high volume manufacturing.
- Composite experience, specifically with RTM and compression molding processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of GMP’s, SOP’s, auditing and inspection.
- Clear experience with SPC and applying statistical methods to process improvement. Six Sigma Green Belt certification a significant plus.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, along with the ability to interface well with all levels.
- Organized and self-motivated.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple duties, set priorities and follow tasks through completion.
- Capable of working in an environment in which demands and priorities change.
Conditions of Employment:
- Four year college or university degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- Must be able to work overtime when required.
