ATK's Dayton, OH facility is seeking an experienced Engineering Professional for the position of Manager of Mechanical Engineering. This hands-on position focuses on the design and fabrication of innovative composite product designs and processes, material selection and recommendations, technical direction and organizational leadership for the 4 to 6 person Mechanical Engineering team, consisting of Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineers. This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering for this site.
Products under development include aerospace antennas, radomes, and composite structures.
Responsibilities:
Distillation of performance and environmental Requirements into hardware designs, \
Preparation of Engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, procedures and reports, and assisting in fabrication including anomaly resolution.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) using CATIA or Pro-E software; Finite Element Analysis (FEA) will be conducted using ABAQUS.
Drafting of proposals, technical reports, and presentations as well as
General management and administrative responsibilities for the team.
Manage design and fabrication of composite product designs and process, material selection/recommendation
Technical direction and organizational leadership for Mechanical and Analysis Engineering team
Occasional customer and company travel (domestic)
Staff recruiting, training, and mentoring.
Staff task scheduling and resource management to satisfy project needs.
Requirements:
MS Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
10 or more years of relevant experience in aerospace industry with lead design experience including both metallic and composite material composition.
3 or more years experience in engineering functional management with proven organizational, leadership and management skills
Knowledge of multiple composites manufacturing processes (Pultrusion, VARTM, RTM, hand-layup, filament winding, vacuum forming, sandwich panel fabrication, bonding, and machining)
CATIA and/or Pro-E proficient with ABAQUS a plus
Demonstrated ability to develop composite product designs, and verify those designs through prototype fabrication and testing.
Composites materials experience preferred.
MS Office Tool proficiency
Active Secret or higher clearance. (ITAR and DOD program requirements).
Skill in Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ANSI drafting standard proficiency.
Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
Experience in tooling design and assembly jigs for large components such as aircraft skins, stringers, layup tools, composite bondments and weldments.
Familiarity with AS9100 and CMMI Level 3 quality standards
Experience fostering and leading in a culture of continuous improvement in technical and process capability.
Other:
Ability to work across multiple projects and follow through to completion.
