Battelle's Environmental Solutions Product Line is a $50M business annually, offering clients a complete range of environmental solutions to solve their unique challenges. The product line works with government and commercial clients, leveraging technical talents from across Battelle to provide comprehensive, science-based solutions to their environmental issues. Battelle's Environmental Solutions Product Line is currently seeking a Manager for its Environmental Restoration and Infrastructure Section. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.
The successful candidate will combine technical environmental engineering or science expertise and experience in strategy and client focus with a proven track record in the management of staff. This position will provide leadership for growing and managing client relationship and creating a strategy for team growth. As leader, this manager will maximize team's financial results while caring and developing other to make a difference with long-lasting results. Leadership in this role includes business, people, and personal impact consistent with annual revenue, growth, and net profit targets set by senior management.
Position Responsibilities:
-Manage 70+ staff across a wide range of disciplines (engineers, chemists, environmental scientists, and support staff) with annual budget/revenue of $25 million. Approximately half of the staff are located in Battelle's corporate headquarters in Columbus where Section Manager position is located and half of the staff are located in diverse geographic regions.
-Manage performance of the Environmental Restoration & Infrastructures (ERI) to achieve financial and operational goals including the Environmental Solutions Product Line's (ESPL's) net income goals. Manage resource allocations to ensure project delivery to clients.
-Define new business areas and strategies for growth in the areas of environmental restoration/ remediation as well as sustainable water/wastewater treatment/infrastructures to grow the group's overall capabilities. Ensure ERI's capabilities are aligned with current and future market needs to appropriately increase business.
-Establish and maintain contacts with government and commercial clients, and manage long-term client relationships to cultivate and develop leads to maximize the business potential.
-Approve, as appropriate, proposals, reports and articles and provide necessary training and mentor opportunities for staff.
-Integrate operations and marketing staff to produce appropriate sales results and assure that marketing investments are consistent with the section's strategic interests.
-Manage manpower planning across the group to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix commensurate with business needs. Integrate Battelle capabilities and services across Product Lines and Global Businesses as they apply to client interests. Translate client needs and future direction with Battelle capabilities into mutual business relationships.
-Establish performance goals, appraise performance (semi-annually), and manage talent across the group including mentoring of a selected management team for the section. Develop and monitor staff growth using Career Development Plans for direct reports and entire section team.
The following requirements must be met to be considered for this position:
-Bachelors degree or Master's Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering.
-20+ years of technical experience in Environmental Science/Engineering working with federal, local, and commercial clients, with an emphasis on environmental remediation.
-10+ years experience managing federal programs (preferable DoD or EPA) and commercial contracts.
-5+ years experience of resource management experience of 50+ staff performing environmental work.
-Demonstrated experience in business development, including preparing and implementation of market sector-based strategic growth plans.
-Demonstrated ability to manage staff across scientific disciplines and in multiple office locations.
-Excellent communication and technical presentations skills for both external and internal clients.
-Excellent writing skills including history of past technical publications.
-Excellent skills in managing and mentoring staff as leader to recruit, hire, appraise performance, and administer salaries.
The following is desired, but not required to be considered for this position:
-Masters degree or PhD in Environmental Science or Engineering.
-Proposal management experience.
-PMP certification, PE/PG registration.
-PE/PG registration.
-Strong relationships with commercial clients.
-Technical background in sustainability.
-National reputation in environment remediation, demonstrated through publications and speaking engagements.
