Job Description
POSITION: Maintenance Technician – Controls
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 
* Works under general or limited supervision.
* Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals.
* May orient, train, assign and check the work of lower level employees.
* Identifies machine and process deficiencies, and leads cross-functional teams to resolve them
* Researches and implements continuous improvement opportunities and provides technical data and cost / benefit models to improve and control manufacturing processes.
* Independently leads assignments with instructions as to the general results expected.  Provides technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and gains approval on proposed plans for completion of projects.
* Project Management to include planning, scheduling, and coordinating all phases of broad-scope projects
* Assists Process and Product Engineers in all phases of research and development, generation of documentation, and PFMEA development
* Provides data to assist in the development of departmental budgets for capital expenditures, life-cycle studies and spare parts inventory management
* As directed, lead the Process Maintenance team in resolving line down situations.  This will include facilitating follow-up meetings for preventative action ideas and implementing the solutions plant-wide
* Analyze results of CPK benchmark boards
* Analyze data to identify trends in machine performance ie modify PM cycles, machine optimization
* Robotics – Reset equipment (leveling) – analyzes entire equipment function, not just one system
* Compiles and analyzes engineering data; may analyze test and design data and prepare proposal reports.
* Researches, develops and documents repeatability and calibration procedures
* Perform other duties as assigned
* Comply with and support the health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and procedures.
 
 JOB SPECIFICATIONS
 
* AS Technical degree in related field with 2 years related experience;orHigh School Diploma or GED with 7 years experience;orBS technical degree in related field with 1 year related experience
* Advanced PLC and machine control programming
* In depth troubleshooting of electrical systems – locate shorts in wiring; using multimeter to check continuity, power, and phases; use amp probe
* Tooling – Use mill, lathe, drill press to fabricate non-precision parts ie. scanner brackets
* Understands and can follow OEM’s instructions to set-up and adjust any major machine control component such as signal conditioners and motor controllers.
* Strong knowledge of PC’s and their uses in machine control 
* Skilled at machine vision and can make adjustments to parametrics to maintain the machine’s performance
* Modify or redesign machine components ex. replace mechanical contacts with mercury switches
* Able to provide positive and constructive feed back about project status, and opportunities.
* Can organize in advance the resources and materials needed to perform complicated machine changes or major repairs.
* Able lead a team of people allowing each to participate fully.  Able to anticipate needs of the team and to arrange solutions to those needs in a timely manner.
* Able to work in a cross functional team across many different skill levels.
* Familiarity with personal computing software (i.e.  MS Word, MS Excel, Visio, MS Project, MS PowerPoint.)
