Title Lead Engineering Designer
Job Description Eaton Corporation located in Asheville, NC has an immediate opening for a Lead Engineering Designer. This position will be responsible for the design of industry-leading medium voltage adjustable frequency drives components and assemblies. The Lead Engineering Designer, working under the guidance of an engineer or manager, develops bills of material, mechanical and electrical design layouts, assembly and detail drawings and models utilizing AutoCAD Inventor. Determines clearances (mechanical and electrical) and develops kinematics interactions and any other involved mechanical and electrical features of the design. Calculates fits, tolerances, strength, weights, stresses, defections, centersof gravity, moments of inertia, electrical circuit parameters and other related items. Participates as a team member of cross-functional project design teams. Develops product designs which may require the implementation of unique solutions. Consults with engineers, manufacturing, marketing purchasing, outside vendors, or others when required to solve problems. Initiates changes in existing products or customer designs to improve performance, quality or costs. Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain basic project schedules and specifications. Fabricates sophisticated prototypes and assists in the direction of support personnel for assembly of prototypes and models. Coordinates and conducts sophisticated tests or experiments requiring a high degree of ingenuity and reports overall results to an engineer or manager. Checks work to assure conformance with Eaton quality standards.

Job Qualifications
/Educational Requirements Associate's Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineering Technology and 1 to 3 years of related experience. Must be able to demonstrate a solid proficiency in CAD (3D Solid modeling), basic drafting, and mechanical, electrical, or electronic principles. A working knowledge of sheet meatal, harness, and machine parts drawings is a plus. An understanding of math, physics, chemistry, machine design, and electrical theory is required. Some knowledge of electrical power systems, power electronics, and adjustable frequency drives is preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and CAD software programs such as AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Pro-E, Solidworks, or Inventor is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Willing to travel occasionally to support manufacturing, product design, and product application issues and to interface with suppliers. Solid problem solving skills and ability to analyze product design, manufacturing, and application issues and drive them to root cause resolution. Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers. Must be a strong team player that enjoys a fast paced environment.
