Posted Position Title Lead Engineer / Technologist - Electric Drives Machines Career Level Experienced Function Engineering/Technology Function Segment Product Design and Development Location United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces Pennsylvania City Lawrence Park Postal Code 16531-0001 Relocation Assistance Yes Role Summary/Purpose Develop and apply electric drive machines in conjunction with control systems to provide the core traction and auxiliary functions for locomotives and off-highway mining trucks. The Lead Engineer/ Technologist demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. Experience & expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals, are a must. Essential Responsibilities * Define requirements and interfaces for rotating electrical machines - alternators, traction motors and auxiliary machines; applied on power-electronics based motor drives
* Design, implement and validate electric rotating machines, their components and assemblies for use on cycle skippers, choppers, inverters, converters or motor controllers
* Perform detailed analysis on machine design for optimization and performance prediction & participate in qualification / validation of designs
* Support the investigation, root-cause identification, and resolution of drives machines reliability issues
* Support the evaluation and conceptualization of new electric drives machines technology and applications
* Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
* Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
* Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
* Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
* Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
* Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
* Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures Qualifications/Requirements * Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
* At least 3 additional years of experience in an electrical engineering position
* At least 1 year of experience with application and or design of electric machines, windings, transformers, and or insulation technology Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Desired Characteristics * Working knowledge of electric machines (AC & DC motors, alternators, transformers) and power electronics (SCR, GTO, IGBT)
* Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and on locomotives or off-highway trucks with high HP (1000 KVA), medium voltage (2 KV) and high current (10 KA) systems
* Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering
* Experience with component and system level validation testing
* Experience with transportation/locomotive auxiliary or traction equipment, systems, control, diagnostics, design or test
* Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
* Solid oral and written communication skills
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
