Job Description: Care and maintenance of living cultures, research and development (R/D), and fulfillment of customer orders. This job also includes taking incoming sales and inquiry calls, researching and resolving customer questions, and performing office and warehouse tasks.
Job Responsibilities: * Fulfillment of customer orders. Customers are typically high school teachers who rely upon us to get them healthy materials in time for scheduled lessons. * Care and maintenance of bacterial, fungal, algal and protist cultures; aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates and vertebrates. This includes caring for large insects. * Warehouse operations including packing orders, preparing picking tickets, and re-stocking materials * Answer incoming phone calls about questions or problems with live materials * Performs other duties as assigned
Experience & Skills: * Basic computer skills including word processing, familiarity with Windows 98 and 2000, and AS400. These skills are required because a Lab Technician uses the computer daily. It would be helpful to have past experience with these computer skills, but they can also be acquired on the job during training. * Customer service abilities including friendliness, a positive attitude, and phone etiquette because Lab Technicians support Customer Service Representatives by taking customer phone calls. Previous customer service job experience would be helpful, but this can be acquired on the job during training. * Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others because we are constantly interacting with each other and work as a team to achieve common goals. It is expected that a Lab Technician will have this ability from past work, education, or life experience. * Flexibility and adaptability to a changing work environment and enthusiasm for continued learning. These traits are required because job duties and responsibilities can vary based on the changing needs of the office. It is expected that a Lab Technician will have these traits from past work, education, or life experience. * Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task because a Lab Technician must coordinate multiple projects at once. It is expected that a Lab Technician will have these traits from past work, education, or life experience.
