Information Technology Project Manager

The University of Illinois seeks an IT Project Manager  with to direct and manage operations related to projects administered by Business Information Systems to achieve established objectives and goals including monitoring progress to ensure completion of project production schedules, and overseeing financial activities to ensure expenditures are in compliance with budget appropriations. Additional responsibilities include:

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Review proposals/plans to facilitate operations related to project management including:  developing strategies to achieve success with established objectives and goals; implementing an effective work production schedule through completion that can reasonably meet deadlines; assessing funding availability/limitations; determining staffing requirements; and allotting available resources needed to accomplish various phases of projects.

 

2. Develop work plans/staffing proposals to accomplish each phase of projects, which requires consulting with the Office of Business and Financial Services (OBFS) and other University officials to confirm the availability of staff for assignment to specific phases of projects to ensure deadlines are met.

 

3. Provide direction and guidance to project officials/staff to outline the strategy for project completion, and to clarify the scope of authority of assigned duties and responsibilities.

 

4. Coordinate and direct staff production schedules, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of each phase of projects.  Review status reports submitted by project officials to assess overall progress of projects, and implement modifications to schedules and/or plans as needed to meet established objectives and goals.

 

5. Manage project expenditures to ensure compliance with budget appropriations.

 

6. Prepare reports for review by managerial and other officials to provide status updates and other information related to projects.

 

7. Consult with project officials/staff to provide technical advice, address issues related to project objectives/goals, and direct a course of action to resolve problems.

 

8. Coordinate project activities with government, regulatory, and other external agencies as needed.

 

9. Develop and maintain a collegial, productive work environment that promotes positive morale, and encourages initiative and self-motivation to improve the overall efficiency of project operations.

 

10. Serve on University and Business Information Systems committees/teams as assigned.

 

11. Perform other assigned duties appropriate for an IT Specialist (Project Manager) position with intermediate project management knowledge and requires a minimum of 2 years as IT Assoc Specialist or equivalent experience.



Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and three years of project management experience.  Other required qualifications include:  ability to review, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations; demonstrated writing skills to prepare reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and other documents that provide complex, detailed information in a format that is clear and user friendly; excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships; strong managerial skills to establish and encourage a productive, teamwork environment; experience with budget development/oversight; ability to analyze and resolve issues for which only limited standardization exists (including a variety of technical instructions presented in mathematical or diagram form), and to integrate numerous abstract and concrete variables in directing an appropriate course of action; ability to interpret a variety of instructions presented in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form; excellent problem-solving skills that require the ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and present valid conclusions in response to problems; and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs/applications (including Word, Excel, Access, Project, Outlook, and Internet Explorer).  Other desirable qualifications include:  experience acquired in a higher education environment, preferably the University of Illinois; working knowledge of Banner; and PMP certification.

 

This is a full-time, 12-month Academic Professional position.
